I agree with comments that the "needle" is indeed a nail, or a monster needle at the very least. Considering that it only took approximately 1 second for the nail to reach the glass when slowed down to 1000 frames per second, it seems the monk was standing pretty damn close too.
They matched the audio to the video so that the sound was in time with the bomb when in reality there would have been a delay due to the speed of sound. Because the audio finishes 18 seconds early and the speed of sound is 343.2m/s, that tells us the camera was positioned approximately 6.2 milometers or 3.9 miles away from the site of the explosion, assuming that the end of the video corresponds with the end of the audio track in time.
@Mataeka, actually there are set school districts for Australian public schools. If you do not reside in the district you go on a waiting list to get in the school which may take many years. I know people in Aus who have faked their addresses to get their kids into the school they wanted.
Didn't anyone else read the article? He thought that we would be able to convert steel into solid gold! o_O That was a common belief amongst alchemists at the time however, so you can't really blame him.
It's virtually impossible to accurately predict that far ahead. Even world experts fail to accurately predict the state the world will be in regarding their particular field 15-20 years into the future. At least he had a good shot at it.
As for 2111, I believe 2 things are certain: overpopulation and inflation.
"The toy fair is one of many field trips undertaken by Orenstein in her effort to stem the frothy pink tide of princess products threatening to engulf her young daughter."
Yes, that'll help. Take her to a toy fair to expose her to tonnes of things she never even knew existed but now suddenly will think she can't live without. Rather than stemming the princess complex, it'll probably just make it even stronger.
Am I the only one who pictured something else?

It's also to expose customers to as much merchandise as possible.
