The tortoise running away and not getting very far part of the story doesnt interest me but I am intrigued that someone would think to test a tortoise for a microchip. Do they not have wild tortoises in this area? Was this one distinct in some way to lead them to believe it was a pet? I have seen dozens of turtles and tortoises and never once thought they might be a runaway pet.
