Actually. That theory is quite similar to the Christian Gnostic belief system - just taken to its rational extreme. Wouldn't be surprised if that was the root of the Cathar belief system. Also the year 2012 is no coincidence either. That's the end of the Mayan calendar which is the favorite date of the end of the current state of existence (not 2000 mind you).
