It's all a big scam. A degree means precisely nothing. People who get degrees and do not stay up-to-date know virtually nothing. Which is why they periodically make professionals go back for a revised course. But those professionals who are active in the field already know what has changed.

Furthermore a person can "cram" for a test, ace it and forget everything that was on it the next day. Ask someone with a psychology degree if they know who "Phineas Gage" was and they will probably say "Umm, sounds familiar, but do tell."

Its reasonable to think that a person with a vested interest in a subject will retain more than someone who merely studies for the sake of attaining to some vocation. Motive is an integral part of memory formation. We tend to remember facts and events that we regard as globally important. If the fact is only necessary for the sake of passing a test, it can quickly be forgotten when the test is over.

I could be wrong, but I think dopamine is part of the neurotrophin cascade. So the heightened reward might be complimentary of adolescent synaptogenesis.

There are no noxious stimuli (pain) receptors in the brain. He probably did feel a sudden pressure in the back of his head but ignored it. It's actually quite common with gunshot wounds to the head.

Apparently some of those (Aeresol
) scented products use "Amorphous Fumed Silica" which you will be happy to know does not lead to Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis. However it can cause granulomatous lesions and silicotic nodules.

I was in a community once and was told that I couldn't drink orange juice publicly because one of our residents had a phobia, esperidoeidiphobia or possibly Hesperidiophobia or Portokaliophobia.

Anyway, I thought this was a ridiculous imposition on me especially considering the guy probably just didn't like orange juice and used his 'phobia' as a way to avoid drinking it. Until I actually drank orange juice in front of him, he reacted just to the smell of it and when he saw the orange juice he bolted for the exit.

Eventually I realized that his reaction was involuntary, my drinking the juice publicly was entirely voluntary and the onus was on me to keep the orange juice out of his sight and nostrils. He was a bit eccentric but by all other measures he was a good guy.

I also apshyxiate when I come in contact with some scented products. Strong smells don't bother me it has something to do with the molecular density of the air surrounding a perfumed area and the manner in which those molecules irritate my trachea.

Brain abnormalities (Wernicke-Korsakoff's syndrome or cerebral beriberi) tend to occur when a severe and sudden deficiency of thiamine aggravates a chronic deficiency. For example, this may occur after severe and repeated vomiting or with binge drinking in alcoholics.

"Many V4 neurons represent color, instead of raw wavelength. A double-opponent cell in V1 may fire whenever a set amount of, say, middle wavelength light impinges onto its receptive field, whereas a V4 cell responds to the middle wavelength region of the spectrum within its receptive field relative to the spectral distribution of stimuli in an extended region of the entire visual field." - Quest For Consciousness: A Neurobiological Approach, by Christoph Koch, pp 137-8

@Pierre thats a great documentary. Prior to the soundtrack being released I had edited "Love and Need" to extract the Maxi Jazz bits and put it all back together and uploaded to youtube as "Maxi Jazz | My name is..." the edited song is a run-down of psychological processes of egoism. E.g. "My name is ego, I'll be with you to your last breath, here's a small list of all the things that scare me to death..." it turns out the complete track is "I've Been Away / Under a Stormy Sky" featuring Haale, Michael Franti, Maxi Jazz & Daniel Lanois.

The edited version soared (compared to my other vids) on Youtube drawing in over 11,000 views, which is 7,000 more than the unedited version uploaded by WhatAboutMeTV. Check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZXgxBlZHpw

Bullies have self-esteem issues too, that's why they are bullies. The ancients used to project all of their sins into a goat which they would either kick off their land or sacrifice on the altar to some god. This is where we get the term "scapegoat" from. "Scape" is a late 13th century aphetic form of "escape", so the term could be written as "escapegoat" if this better illustrates the nature of the act. We can escape from our sins by projecting it all onto some child, punishing them and patting ourselves on the back for what good people we are. This will protect us from facing the larger issue of a misguided and corrupt society (the reason we have bullies in the first place). Its just like we do with so-called "Criminals".

But see I could go with or without... soccer I mean.. well and beer too. If I never have either of them again I'll be just fine.

"Environmental stimuli are always involved in the expression of the effects of centrally acting drugs in behaving animals. Conditioned environmental stimuli should not be thought of as creating abnormal, artifactual effects that get in the way of true pharmacological effects but rather as stimuli that, through their history of association with exposure of the organism to a drug, now participate in the selective expression of the drug effect" - Stweart and Vezina (1987)
