I've donated plasma, but not blood (they wouldn't let me), for that very reason. It's pretty wild actually – after the blood is drawn, it goes through a centrifugue (whirring around like a washing machine when it extracts water), and then blood is pumped back up in your arm again – which you feel. It's a strange sensation! But not unpleasant in any way.
