Her self-portraits are interesting. What she seemed to convey in every photo is her role as a 'watcher'. There's no expression on her face except attentiveness, and she chose a camera she holds low on her body, so that it didn't get between her and her subject. The photographer and the subject would then be equally exposed to each other's curiosity.

They were missing fika? Isn't there something in the Swedish constitution prohibiting the 'cruel and unusual punishment' of prisoners?

This raises far more questions than it answers. Like why did the cops arrest the boy over a $5 box of Pop-tarts? For his own safety?

There was once this game show, set in a supermarket. Two contestants would run around the store with empty shopping carts (and helpers driving the cart) trying to fit as many high priced items into their carts as possible and then race back to the starting line in under a minute or two. Whoever racked up the highest receipt at the cash register won and got to keep what they had gathered.
When grocery stores started putting in cheese departments that included whole wheels, my inner game show competitor said 'Ka-ching!'.

Our last trip was to Ireland. How much like the Pacific Northwest -- the latitude, cool wet weather, and acid soil, and therefore the plant life, only more intensely colored. The friendliness of the people, their cultural and political astuteness, their irrepressible sense of humor, the lilting lyrical quality of their language, their historical resilience, and of course, the music. The surprising part was how much at home I felt; it was so easy to fall in love with that country. We're going to go to Scotland next.

Is it my birthday?!!! I loved this site! If the location was somewhere in the western U.S. I could get within a few hundred miles, even if I'd never been there, like Alberta, Canada. Also pretty good at the northern latitudes. Below the equator? Disaster! In one guess I was about 7,000 miles off. Thanks, Miss C., this is loads of fun!
