for research - find & read the short story The Marching Morons by C.M. Kornbluth. It's science fiction, depicting the future when all those intelligent, socially conscious people who should have had children didn't, but all the ignorant clod masses did.
Let me be the first to say: What do you do about the sweet, loveable old lady who just doesn't like cats of any kind, at all? She got scratched when she was three, and for the last eighty years, she's advocated at every opportunity that ALL Cats should be rounded up, and ground up into dog food. And some neighbourhoods have actually listened to her, notably around the corner in Australia. And all the cat-lovers there were really surprised when one day, they were ordered (Ordered! in a democratic country!) to bring their cats down to the grinder. Of course, some tough guys hid their cats and never gave them up. And now, nobody who loves cats in that place can have one, and the only ones left are the bad face-scratchers. And it's a bigger problem than it ever was.
So if I'm out there cheering with my friends, and the crowd gets crowded, I'm going to go home with my shoulders slimed, for the crime of being bumped. Hope this Crisco washes out, or I'll sue somebody!
Another factor - Sleep apnea. I was ok in the mornings, the crashed about noon and was dopey all afternoon. I mentioned to my doctor that I'd had a close call driving my car, and he sent me to the sleep test. Now I use a CPAP machine to help me breathe while I sleep, and it's made all the difference. I'm pretty sure the apnea cost me a job, though.
Even worse when you're allergic to some ingredients. Going out to dinner with some friends, we were interrupted by one of the guys collapsing because Caesar salad has anchovies in its dressing, and Who Knew?
I notice that videos taken with jiggly-phone don't show up-and-down very clearly. It looked like the big truck was coming down the hill at the right, then slowed down at the left. I see him sliding backwards 'uphill' until it his the light-pole.
The one I miss is the Internet Movie DataBase forum (IMDb). It was a goldmine of information, insight, humor, analysis, support and intelligent criticism, with just a bit of crazy. Then, one day, the Powers-That-Be decided to chop it, and life became less fun. I blame the advent of Mr Trump, whose supporters spam-warred with the bashers.
Yeah, 'Why didn't he signal his lane change?'. This is obviously not happening in Toronto, where one badly-planned left turn can jam up an entire street for the whole morning, while the Emergency Workers diddle around, taking statements and eventually clearing the bent car. And... it reflects on the TTC driver's record, future raises and promotions, etc.
Some things happened, just between the computers and the humans who dealt with them. A meat-packing plant in my hometown put a few tons of canned ham out to be disposed of, because the meat-expiry date had gone to '00. The fellas who actually worked the fork-lifts spotted this and saved the garbage men the trouble of carrying it away. My Dad came home with a case he'd gotten from his local garage - 24 cans for five dollars. Small disaster = small windfall. Lots of other examples.
