"Either way, it’s atmospheric, not from outer space. ‘Space Ice’ wouldn’t survive that long if small, and if large, it would impact like a metorite, with the heat and concussion and crater and all. She wouldn’t have a head left."

...Meh, with all of the air pollution it would probably melt down to the size of a chihuahua's head.

It was the concept that "we don't need regulation and big government, the market will take care of itself" which got us into this mess.

Deregulation didn't help California's energy problems and it didn't help our economy.

The bottom line is that in this world some people will step on their own mother to make a quick buck and they will certainly step on yours without thinking twice.

Yes, we do need regulators because deep down we're evil. Every last one of us.

or serial zookeeper...

I'm going to take the opposite side on this one.
Maybe he was just imitating behavior he'd seen before?

I think the language of the CNN article colors this a certain way. They didn't have to use the word 'rampage' for instance.

What about that kid who took over a train and actually did a good job of stopping at stations and picking people up? Nobody called that a rampage.

I am no physicist, but I have always wondered about many of these carbon-free energy systems. Particularly in the example of wave and wind farms, but solar may apply as well. The very process they employ simply converts one form of energy to the other, right? As such, won't we see cooling conditions in the ocean (for wave farms) and atmosphere (for wind farms)? This cooling isn't the same as 'not producing carbon' but more from moving the energy from one system and into another.

Since it takes energy to move these various generators, won't the waves and wind which pass them be perhaps colder and slower?

If someone could explain this to me I would greatly appreciate it. ^___^

I don't think it's shopped, but I do think there is a kind of bias in perception. It doesn't look like a flamingo, it looks like a duck or goose.

Take a look at the 'beak' instead of being long and curved down, this one is short and curved up.

Also the body shape is squat and round with the 'legs' oriented toward the rear of the body.

I would like a third option in this survey :
I am not qualified to answer.

If I have to choose between preventing an economic meltdown or principles, I'd prevent the meltdown. I'd be happier not losing the rest of my money.

I wonder what the public was saying in September of 1929.

We fortunately have the history to see what happens when we don't act fast enough to prevent disaster.

So the 'moral' choice is moot for me. The real question is will the plan work? I am not nearly qualified for that answer.

I'm glad I'm not the only old word dork out there.

While I don't use them when writing, I do love to throw them out in regular conversation just to screw with people.

Removing old words from the dictionary is fine. That's what a thesaurus is for.

Doubleplusgood.

@Gail Pink - That would be Elton John.

Slurs against lifestyles/sexual preferences aside, 'talking like a pirate' is an invention of hollywood.
Look it up.

You might as well have talk like an Ewok day.

Yub yub!
