Does that mean vegans shouldn't be eating them?

I once watched a documentary that claimed it could be because it makes them more agile (faster to change directions), but this makes more sense to me.

It's not just a difference in our brain structures that give us the power of speech. It is physically impossible for chimps to form words (other than very, very basic ones) considering the physical formation of their mouths, throat, and larynx.

A much simpler explaination would be because younger women produce healthier babies.
I think this account is a better explaination as to why women live for so long after their reprodictive cycles have ceased, as most animals don't outlive their ability to produce offspring for long.

The Kite Runner is the best book I have read in a long, long time. I recommend it to everyone. A Thousand Splendid Suns was great too.
