I'm a bit worried about his kind of thing as well. I've converted most of my savings to precious metals and I have serval months worth of dry goods (rice, canned goods) on hand in the house--just in case.

For people exposed to high levels of radiation, it's probably better to be protected from immediate death by radiation poisoning, even if it makes future cancer a certainty. Better to die later than now, in most cases.

I firmly believe that the Bible was written 1/10th by Jesus and those faithful to him, and 9/10ths by Satan and those faithful to him.

I mean come on, there's some pretty vile stuff happening in there, and it has caused a lot of vile things to happen in the world. It also has just enough truth and good messages to sway people to believe in it, which makes it extremely dangerous.

I feel like dogs, as a species domesticated as companions and helpers for humans, should not be subject to the grill, except under emergency situations (ie just before you start eating your neighbors). Same goes for cats, and perhaps ferrets.

Most everything else is fair game though. Bring on the horsemeat!

DCer: Homicide rate is the lowest in New York since 1963, from Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_in_New_York_City

Smothering your children only serves to create a generation of people who can't do anything for themselves, and will rely on government to protect them at the cost of their freedom (just as you want to do to our children).

The likelihood of a child being taken off the street in a big city approaches zero, simply because there are so many people around, and most people are good. Your child is far more likely to be raped by a relative than by a stranger. Does that mean that you should never leave your kids with relatives?

Well, That would be great if it could be implemented in such a way that it preserves the natural diversity of the rainforests, but I don't see that happening. It would likely be better to use algae for biodiesel production, as it can be farmed on otherwise unusable land, and requires nothing but stagnant water and sunlight.

Cindy:

Don't be too thrilled. They'll have to take out the old teeth before they put in new ones.

Fear of the drill my be replaced with fear of the pliers.
