Sure it was cool to wake up to. What wasn't cool though is that we left the windows open that night and I had to spend the whole day wiping the orange dust off every surface in my apartment.
If this fungus plague is really as bad as these crop scientists reckon, this could mean a dramatic plummet in the world human population. Swine flu who?
I'm not saying this was Da Vinci's work, but during the Renaissance, the anatomy of men that featured in paintings and sculptures was usually far better than the anatomy of women. This is because it was illegal to use women as nude models in paintings, and the anatomy of women was never studied in art academies. Michelangelo actually used dudes for his models for women, which is why some of his sculptures of women look like men with tennis balls protruding from their chests: http://www.dartmouth.edu/~matc/math5.geometry/unit4/0423.gif His representations of women were so far off that some also argue he was gay, and so wouldn't have a great idea of what a nude woman looked like.
Many species will have a very different life spans in the wild vs in captivity. Perhaps the list should have focused on maximums or realistic life expectancies in the wild. Also, the figure for the Galapagos land tortoise can't possibly be accurate if it's an average considering that the majority of hatchlings don't even make it past infancy. These wouldn't be considered outliers either considering that most hatchlings will meet this fate (poor babies). The same goes with many of the species mentioned.
