It's part of the whole artsy ideal spawned out of the 60's protest mentality. It's a marketing ploy to appeal to the rebel instinct in people. Kind of like making boomers feel young by playing Mick Jagger music in a commercial.

Perhaps somebody should make a statement against overstatement in art.
