"But take this one with a grain of salt..."

Will do! I'm sure the other "mancys" are rock-solid.

I can tell you that if you have a ragged mole that's changing, a visit to the dermatologist is in your future. If not, then a visit to the undertaker may be out there on the horizon.

Wrong. Both the United States and the Soviet Union detonated multiple high altitude nuclear weapons, some farther into "space" than Starfish Prime (which actually detonated in the upper Earth atmosphere). The highest altitude explosion was Argus III, 6 September 1958, 1.7 kt, 540 km.

I don't know why Starfish Prime is being singled out as exceptional. The Krulwich piece on NPR is very interesting but it does leave the impression that Starfish Prime was unusual. Unfortunately, it wasn't. Check the Wikipedia entry on High-Altitude Nuclear Explosion.

From Grant Park, the building mostly looked shabby — like some of the window curtains were being replaced. The "erosion" effect may be more striking when you're looking up at the building, but at a distance it's just not effective.

The circle down the drain thing is a complete myth. The coriolis effect is far too small to affect a small volume of water.

"Teach the little children how wrong weapons are and they'll grow up to teach their children the same thing."

I'd be happy if that really happened, but teaching that guns are bad's not the idea. We have such a gun fetish culture in this country that schools come up with over-the-top rules like this to cover actual weapons and toys that look just like the real thing. The mindset behind the rules is the same as the one that comes up with idiotic three-strikes and mandatory minimum sentencing. If we can't leave judging to adults, it's not surprising that airtight rules get handed down to kids.

"Both ends in the same place" must be really dumbed-down for a popular audience. It's called spacetime. To go from the Earth today to the time of the dinosaurs, you'd have to travel not only back in time, but to the location in space where the Earth was millions of years ago. That's a long way away and difficult to calculate given the expansion of the universe, the direction and rotation of the galaxy and the motion of the solar system.

So do I scrub my eyelashes with dish soap to get rid of the follicle mites that live in them too? I guess I need to buy separate cookware for meat and milk too...

Is a Wired link sufficient credit for the article you've appropriated? I get the Wired newsfeed and don't really need redundant posts like this.

Is this based on any research into history or just this guy's supposition about what may have happened? Innocent people were killed in Salem. Ninteen were hanged, one tortured to death, and as many as seventeen (four are confirmed) died in prison. I declare Mr. Leeson a witch, lucky for him we have a more enlightened judicial system today.
