Planted purple carrots one year. Have been planting them ever since.
It was part of a program for heirloom vegetables.
The taste of the purple and white carrots cannot be matched by "mega farm" carrots. These are sugary sweet.

@ Christina and "foreigners" - the US does have free medical care. It comes in many different forms. It ranges from well known program names like Medicare, to unknown programs for people who live below the poverty level, or to healthcare for the homeless or unemployed.
And each state has it's own programs.
Part of the problem might be that most people do not know what options are available to them. Like I stated in my first comment. There is healthcare available to the unemployed people in Michigan. If that woman lives under the poverty level, she could also be elligble for several other programs as well.

More classic type fair? New Mexico State Fair.
It has the traditional arts n' crafts. Baking contests. The 4-H exhibits. Livestock. etc...
we have the Native American and Spanish pavillions as well.
There is so much to do. I tend to keep away from the midway, which is where the rides, games and overpriced grossly deepfried foods are.
The sheep barn has a small lunch "counter" where for three dollars you can get cotton candy larger than the size of your head..so large that I remember to bring a plastic garbage bag with me to put the rest in. You get your moneys worth in cotton candy from those people. You can also get a lamburger.

Thank you for the idea. I now have a snappy way of getting townies out to my property to do some weed clearing. I just have to come up with a fancy name for weeds. :/

I saw a program on PBS maybe a year ago called Design Squad. There was a double amputee who had the kids design her a "mermaid" flipper, so she could swim and perform.

I guess the unemployment department in Michigan does not tell people how to get temporary healthcare through COBRA.
Even when I worked in fast food (which she could do)I had health insurance. It was almost half a paycheck, but worth it.

@ e7C - the elementary school here has a playground rule of "no finger guns." I know of one child who was put into lunch detention because he tried to bypass the rule by saying it was a "laser pistol, and those do not exist". He had even made the "pew pew" noise. But "finger guns" are not allowed on the playground.

The first time I saw an image of that crab was in National Geographic. There was a diver stadning near it, to give you a idea of size. It was mostly leg. When you see one next to a diver - you then realize it aint that scary.

I like the rolling log bit and it took me a moment to notice he was walking on water.
I also like that he is on the motorcycle at the end. I had thought the ad was done at the hot tub - but then.
