*snicker* At least half of those are delightfully snarky and only a couple are blatantly out-of-touch. I think I'd rather Pres. Bush make these kinds of gaffes than those that currently come out of his mouth.

Mm, sawdust smell. I enjoy the smell of hardware stores in general, though (mainly the lumber scent with the rubber overtones).

What I would like scents for are: candle in a pumpkin smell (no spice aromas), burning leaves, and that smell you get after it rains...

Yeah, I noticed the /blog in the URL, which is why I carefully scoured the page for a "page 2" or "more" or something link. And bookmarked indeed! Even there aren't more forthcoming, I can handily link to it as need be. :)

This reminds me of some old Star Trek episode where the people on some remote planet worshiped ...I can't remember the name given to it, but it was spelled out from the remaining letters naming the Voyager space probe or something.

Sid: it says she talks like she's 1, but reads like she's 7, so I think she's "just" clever about making the right sounds for letters on sight rather than really understanding what she's reading.

Why would anyone get rid of a bomb shelter? Unless it had become structurally unsound and was liable to cave in... otherwise it doesn't even take up any space! It'd be a great place to for a playroom or even just to show off.

I'm fairly equivocal on this, but MoonCake: boys and girls are different. In some ways because they're socialized to be so (which is gonna happen whether they're educated together or not), but there are fundamental, honest-to-God biological differences. Boys will make jackass comments anyway. Girls will be snotty to boys anyway. This doesn't prevent them from socializing outside of school (see also: homeschoolers who are active in their communities; I hear those who go to same-sex also still manage to mingle with their opposite-sexed counterparts). You paint a nice slippery slope, too: kids aren't stupid, and even if they couldn't understand (and still cared) about the separation, you educate them to be respectful of everyone anyway, like you're supposed to. But no, oh my god, of course educating boys away from girls will lead to a regression to Neanderthal manly behavior.

And btw, we're supposed to be equally legally and have equal opportunity to do... whatever. That's all.
