Kennedy inspired us to get our a*ses on the Moon with his great speech. We felt the need because the Soviet Union had humiliated us with Sputnik and kept leading us in the space race. So, are the Chinese the new "enemy" we need to outpace?
I agree, Andrew. I have tried to read books on a screen, but there's something special about a genuine physical book you can hold in your hands. Besides, authors can't autograph a Kindle. Very good point, John. E-books rely on power, and functioning equipment. When the electricity is out for a while and batteries run down, paper books are still there.
I do my best to stay out of the pop culture loop as much as possible. I don't feel a compelling need to know who killed whom on "Game of Thrones," or who the latest Grammy winners are, or any of that crap. I'm happy to stay in my own world with my own likes.
This comedy of errors is what one would expect in the United States - not Germany! No doubt at least one person will write a book - maybe somebody is already working on a book - about this rolling dumpster fire. What a great documentary it would make.
Why doesn't the USA use the metric system? Because we are stupidly stubborn. We will go metric sooner or later - pressure from the rest of the world and sheer necessity will force us to make the change. As for football, they'll keep yards. We're not going to call inchworms "centimeterworms."
Mickey Mouse has turned into an insatiable Pac-Man determined to devour the entire entertainment industry. I do all that I can to avoid them. If I want to see a movie that is part of the Disney Empire, I wait until I can borrow a DVD from the library.
