I gave my husband one of these a few years ago kind of as a last-minute gift because I was running out of ideas. Turned out he'd always wanted one and he loved it. Ours has different colored liquid in each of the floats and is jewellike and lovely.

There's nothing wrong with sharing environmentalist ideas* with students. Giving them complexes about it? That's all kinds of wrong.

PaulVI, I live in Texas, home of excellent Mexican (Tex-Mex) food. I've had some atrocious "Mexican" food in other states; Arkansas comes to mind. I once had a really good Mexican meal in, of all places, Virginia.

I was a vegetarian for 10 years. During this time, a coworker once told me that I could eat at Taco Bell. How did he figure, I asked him? Because, he said, their tacos were made with soy. But they still contained beef, right? He confirmed that this was true. Then how did he think a vegetarian could eat them? He failed immediately to expound on this.

I don't have a name for it, but having been to the dentist recently, I've thought that something like this would be a brilliant thing for dentists to have available.

Years ago, there was a lady in the church I attended when I was a kid whose dyed dark brown hair appeared a lovely shade of evergreen under the fluorescent church lights. It looked regular dark brown in daylight, but under those lights, it was a dark pine green.

Interesting. My birthday is January 15. Formerly a Capricorn, now I'm a Sagittarius. My formerly Sagittarian husband, with a November 28 birthday, is now a Scorpio. I never thought I fit into the traditional description of Capricorns, but even twins can have very different personalities from each other.

No. Speaking as someone who minored in fine arts, no, I don't 'get' art at all. In fact, the point completely sailed over my head.

As a crocheter, I've got mixed feelings. The money she spent to buy that amount of yarn could have made a more practical statement if it had been donated to a charitable cause.

One of my cats had a rather rocky start in life. As a kitten, he and his littermates had the misfortune of being found by some bored neighborhood kids, who sprayed perfume on the kittens. This caused the mother cat to reject the kittens and start killing them. My sister-in-law rescued the last two and gave one of them to me to foster (but we ended up getting attached to him and keeping him).

We had him from about the age of one week. By the time he was six months old, he had manifested some odd personality quirks. He would suddenly begin crying and growling when he was previously calm and happy, and would hiss at us, though we could find no outside cause for his provocation. When we asked the vet about it, she said that it was possible that his fragile kitten skin could have absorbed the alcohol in the perfume and caused liver damage (he had some abnormal liver tests) and possibly brain damage. He's mostly healthy and happy, just a little "special" sometimes.

Moral of the story: Don't ever let ME catch your precious little bored kids torturing kittens for fun.

Adopted children don't share genes with their siblings, unless their siblings were adopted from the same family. I'm as different as night and day from my older (adopted) brother, but have quite a bit in common personality-wise with my younger brother. Both brothers are my parents' biological children. I did meet my biological family about 10 years ago, and have a great deal in common with two of my siblings (the two closest to my age) while having little in common with the oldest and the youngest.
