What's the Best Way to Merge in Traffic?

Alex

The freeway is clogged and you spot the dreaded "lane ends" sign ahead. You know that you should merge, but what's the best way to do so?

Do you get over first chance you get, as far away as you can from the actual lane's end? Or do you wait till the last minute - passing scores of motorists fuming that you're cutting in line ahead of them?

Turns out, the "polite" early merge method is wrong and all those rude drivers are right.

The "Zipper Merge" has been shown by studies to be the most efficient way to merge. It effectively increases traffic flow by 15 percent and reduce merging lines by up to 50 percent.
