Your first impulse when you spot a random bug in your home is to either step on it or find an item with which you can squish it to its death. Experts advise you do the opposite when you spot a stink bug. Not that it’s going to be poisonous or deadly when you step on it, but it will release a pungent odor that can take over your home:
Experts warn that you shouldn't step on a stink bug because—in living up to their name—they can stink up your home. "Avoid squishing stink bugs at all costs, as they tend to release a very pungent odor," says Zachary Smith, president of Smith's Pest Management. And even if you don't step on them, just making them feel threatened can also lead them to release a stinky scent.
Experts at Paul's Pest Control Melbourne offer similar advice. "You have to be careful!" they caution. Stink bugs "release their foul smell when they feel threatened or get squashed. That means you need to resort to pesticides to kill them—don't just step on them or use force."
