Metal Chain Whip Packs Huge Power

Listen, if you see someone wielding this chain whip, run. Just, run away. This metal chain whip packs a huge punch. While the whip can be easily avoided, when it hits you, oh boy. I’d rather not think about that. Let’s all just marvel at the power this hardcore whip packs.

Berlin Clubs Now Live Stream DJ Sets

United We Stream is a collaboration between 40 clubs and other nightlife businesses in Berlin. The project streams DJ sets from different clubs in Berlin every evening. United We Stream replaced the nightlife in Berlin, since clubs and establishments are closed down due to the pandemic. The Guardian has the details:

In each United We Stream set, DJs play alone, illuminated by light projections against empty dancefloors. It’s a conscious decision to remind viewers that the streams aren’t a soundtrack for lockdown parties, but reflect how “critical, unbelievable and dramatic” the situation is, says Lutz Leichsenring, press spokesperson for the Club Commission, the non-profit organisation behind the initiative.
The Club Commission is requesting donations as it aims to raise €1m with United We Stream to support Berlin’s clubs. Around €320,000 has been donated already, with the money to be distributed later by a panel, according to financial need. A Club Commission study found that around 9,000 people are employed in the nightlife sector, and that in 2018 it generated turnover of €1.48bn, with one in three tourists going to Berlin to party. Despite their success, Berlin’s clubs were already facing a cocktail of challenges before the coronavirus crisis, including gentrification and speculative buying in a breakneck property market.

CDC Recommends Wearing Anime Shirts to Socially Distance Others Away From You

Anime Maru is a satirical website. Think of it as The Onion, but for anime fans like me. Today, it offered practical advice that may save my life during this pandemic:

The CDC stated that in several initial trials, wearing an anime shirt in public was shown to cause significantly reduced public interaction. Those who wore a shirt with an anime character printed on it claimed they noticed far fewer people approaching them than usual. Shirts with large graphics of underage characters in suggestive poses or attire were found to be the most effective. Shirts which featured only logos or less pronounced imagery had limited effect on distancing the wearer and were only recommended if nothing else was available.
“The idea is to create a feeling of immense awkwardness around the wearer,” stated CDC Director Robert Redfield. “To be effective, the shirt should cause others to worry about accidentally being associated with you should they stand too close for any period of time.”

If you don't have an anime t-shirt, then an anime hug pillow--a dakimakura, as we otaku call them--will do just as well. In fact, it would probably be even more effective and also permit you to take your waifu out in public.

Ten Icons of Social Distancing from TV and Movies

Some of the most memorable characters ever were isolationists, who took social distancing to the next level. That means they spent a lot of time alone, some on purpose, but most were merely victims of circumstance. Mel magazine looks into what caused them to be cloistered, how they dealt with loneliness, and whether any lessons were learned, in a list of ten movie and TV characters who spent a lot of time alone. Yeah, the title says ten, but there are more, because there's a bonus roundup of the many hermits of Star Wars.

Freeride Skiing at Home

Philipp Klein Herrero was supposed to take his family on a freeride skiing trip, but had to cancel. At home, all he could think about was skiing, so he used his GoPro camera to make a little stop-motion video about it, which probably took as long a climbing up that mountain would have. -via Laughing Squid

The Swan Project

Twenty-four student cellist from across the world came together (virtually) to play 'The Swan' from Saint-Saens's The Carnival of Animals. Each cellist played a small passage and the video was seamlessly stitched together to create the entire piece.

I hope this video serves as a comfort during these bleak times. When life gets rough, I always resort to music first. With the combined force of 24 student cellists from around the world, we wish to share that experience with you through "The Swan" from Saint-Saëns's The Carnival of the Animals. It is a piece of cello repertoire that harnesses simplicity and beauty in a language that speaks directly to the soul. In this unprecedented time of COVID-19 gripping the world, our bodies may be in different places, but our souls can still unite through music.

Like Father, Like Daughter: One-Punch Man Artist Shares Daughter’s Art Online

One-Punch Man is a story about a man who is so strong he could defeat opponents of any kind with just one punch. The series began as a superhero webcomic by artist One in early 2009. Two years later, in 2011, he was contacted by another artist — Yusuke Murata — who offered to redraw the manga for him.

Aside from its unusual story, One-Punch Man is also known for its highly-detailed drawings by Murata.

Murata is often referred to as a superhuman “god” amongst manga fans due to his out-of-this-world illustration skills.

Now, it seems that someone is following in Murata’s footsteps: his daughter.

Murata played proud father recently when he shared a photo of one of his daughter’s illustrations with his 670,000 followers on Twitter, along with the comment: “My 10-year-old daughter has started drawing manga.”
The photo shows his daughter has a clear talent for drawing, with the sketch looking like it could have been drawn by someone twice her age.

It’s not only Murata’s daughter who’s following in his footsteps — his seven-year old son also is.

Amazing!

Check Out This Pizza Vending Machine!

You may have seen countless snack and drink vending machines in your lifetime, but have you ever seen a pizza vending machine? Basil Street, a startup company based in California, just revealed their pizza making vending machine that “rivals a high-end brick oven pizzeria.”

Basil Street unveiled its system that is capable of cooking and delivering a 10-inch, gourmet pie in just three minutes, all while using the freshest ingredients.
The cooking process uses the firm's three element non-microwave speed oven that produces a 'wood-fire oven experience' in a fraction of the time.

But is the taste and texture of the pizza compromised? Thankfully, it isn’t.

Taste testers have said the pizza is just as good as their favorite pizzeria.

NASCAR Driver Bubba Wallace “Rage Quits” In An Esports Race

Apparently, the term “rage quitting” can not only be applied to gamers; it also can be applied to racers as well.

It was Lap 11 in the race that happened during the Food City Showdown from Bristol Motor Speedway. Racers Bubba Wallace and Clint Bowyer were next to each other when suddenly Wallace bumped the back of Bowyer’s car. Bowyer’s car was then spun out while Wallace’s car was put in the wall.

Wallace was so frustrated that he quit the race on the spot — not an entirely unusual response even in real-life racing, … — and later tweeted “I ruined so many peoples day by quiting (sic)..a video game.. Bahaha. A video game. Damn quarantine life is rough.”

Wallace’s real life sponsor, was understandably unamused by what he did. His sponsor said that he was fired, and also threw shade on Wallace via a tweet, saying that they’re “interested in drivers, not quitters.”

Wallace, however, still took part in another race, this time being the NBC eSports Short Track iRacing Challenge, with his car now wearing the US Air Force colors.

This Robot Tries To Move Like A Real Dog

This is Laikago, a robot quadruped developed at Google’s AI Lab. Laikago was named after Laika, the first dog in space. It is currently trained to walk and run like a real dog by showing it motion-capture clips of real dogs.

Training a robot to perform tasks by mimicking the movements of a living creature is not new… But teaching a robot by showing it video of a real dog is definitely new. And that is just what Google is doing.

And the results are astonishing.

Video of Laikago in action shows that the technique works—the robotic dog is able to walk and trot very much like a real dog—and even simulates chasing its tail.

Skype: We Still Exist

Amidst the rise of many video conferencing platforms like FaceTime, HouseParty, and Zoom, Skype, despite it dominating the video conferencing field in the early 2010s, is largely ignored, as if it’s non-existent, and that’s why it reminded us recently that it still exists through a tweet that introduced a new feature to the video conferencing app: Skype Meet Now.

Skype Meet Now lets you generate a meeting URL that you can send to participants. It was easy to use in the web-based client. However, when I selected the option of opening the Skype app, the meeting wouldn't open and I was left with an eternally spinning wheel of death that I just had to exit out of.

But how did Skype lose its dominance on the video calling field? Find out over at Mashable.
