10 Criminally Underrated Cartoon Shows

I constantly run into two problems when I discover a new animated series I like- the series is hard to find online, much less on disc or streaming service, and the series was inevitably cancelled after a season or two.

These problems turn an uplifting experience into a frustrating one, and three of the most frustrating experiences I've had involve the early cancellation of Sym-Bionic Titan, The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack and Mission Hill.

Flapjack lived for three seasons but had to die so Adventure Time could live, Sym-Bionic Titan was cancelled after one season and only two episodes of Mission Hill aired before the WB cut it from their lineup.

These shows were all criminally underrated but didn't make it onto WatchMojo's list of Top 10 Underrated Cartoon Series, but Duckman was number 1 on their list and that was one of the greatest cartoon shows ever made!

Sorcery

A lot of things look like magic until you learn to do them. There's a lot going on in this short story: imagination, creativity, giving, and friendship. The imagination is to make the lesson fun, the creativity will grow with practice, and the giving and friendship are skills that will pay off throughout a child's life. This is the latest comic from Lunarbaboon.

Once Again, The Simpsons Called It

Who could have predicted that the United States would ever win an Olympic gold medal in curling? Sure, it's a sport that doesn't require physical fitness, but few Americans even knew what it was until the Vancouver Olympics, while Canada and the Scandinavian countries traditionally rule. The answer is: The Simpsons. In an episode from 2010, Homer and Marge beat Sweden for the gold.

(YouTube link)

Then on Saturday, it happened in real life. Team USA defeated Canada to advance to the final, then bested Sweden 10-7. Take that, Sweden!

It's the first gold medal the USA has ever won in curling. The Simpsons has a record of predicting events that eventually become true, which is because the show has been on the air a million years and specializes in outrageously improbable storylines. But did they ever predict the ending of this women's cross country skiing event?  -via Uproxx

The Science Museum Of Indiana - Ask Mr. Gorgon At The Front Desk For A Demo

The Science Museum of Indiana by DCVA

Hawkins used to be such a sleepy little town that the town's criminals and bullies were even boring, but ever since conspiracies came to light and things got turned upside down Hawkins has become one of the hottest places for tourists to visit in Indiana. However, there's one fact these tourists seem to be missing about the town- there are deadly creatures lurking everywhere, and people die or "disappear" all the time. Either they don't want to know or don't care, so the town council has created a number of tourist attractions around town to educate strangers on the dangers they face while in Hawkins, including a Science Museum that houses specimens from the upside down, so they can see firsthand what may eat them or one of their group while they're in town...

Show the world you went to Hawkins and have the souvenir tee to prove it with this The Science Museum Of Indiana t-shirt by DCVA, it's a great combination of nerdy and educational that'll drive your fellow fans wild!

These Two-Faced Disney Mashup Drawings Are Quite Magical

The characters who star in Disney movies tend to look nothing alike unless they're siblings like Elsa and Anna in Frozen, and the diversity of the cast is a big part of what makes Disney movies so visually appealing.

So considering how different Belle and the Beast, Merida and the mama bear and Aladdin and Abu look it's surprising how well their faces go together in these two-faced mashups by Instagrammer dada16808.

A post shared by d a d a (@dada16808) on Jan 13, 2018 at 11:15am PST

Dada16808 is really good at adding detail to her character portraits without dramatically altering their original Disney look, and the split face effect looks cool no matter which two characters she puts together.

The Millennium Falcon Bedroom

Dericrw and his wife built a Star Wars bedroom for their son, in the hopes that he will sleep in his own room. Who could resist? The sleeping pod of the Millennium Falcon is the size of a twin bed and is bolted to the ceiling joists. The rest of the ship is painted on the wall behind it. Check out the inside! It has a fan for air circulation and LED lights.

On the opposite wall, there's a TV that the child can see from the bed. Under the screen is a weapons cache with his Nerf guns and lightsabers. The LED lights on the side glow in different colors.

Dericrw says the project took about a month of work on the weekends. You can see more pictures in a gallery here.

Funny McDonald's Yelp Reviews You Won't Believe Are Real

There is no restaurant too small, too fancy or too franchise-y to receive a review on Yelp, yet most of the reviews related to the big fast food chains are posted by people who act like they've never been to a fast food restaurant.

That's because most Yelpers take themselves a bit too seriously, critiquing places like McDonald's as if they're serious food critics slumming at a fast food joint, and their reviews are completely unhelpful.

But when someone writes a review that is both hilarious and helpful they deserve to be upgraded to platinum level Yelper status, along with the folks who manage to tear down Mickey D's in a funny way without lowering their star status.

The truth is Yelpers suck unless they're either being funny or putting their ego aside and sharing helpful information, and even though I rarely go by Yelper reviews unless the restaurant has a low rating I always have room for another funny review!

The Myth of Thor's Journey to the Land of Giants

Story time! Thor, along with Þjálfi and Loki, went on a journey to the land of giants. The king of the giants gave them challenges, several of them for Thor, which they failed. Thor isn't used to defeat. What can he do?

The end of the tale shows how everything in the story is an analogy, and the effects of the challenges are the reasons the story was told in the first place. -via Geeks Are Sexy

Weird Things That Show Up In Every Sitcom

Sitcoms are formulaic by design, and even though the cast, types of characters and settings change the situations that lead to the funny bits stay the same.

Situations like main character falls in love with other main character, main characters have a housing crisis on their hands or main character feuds with neighbor are all commonly found in sitcoms- and so are crazy situations like kids crashing cars into houses.

This sort of thing hardly ever happens in real life, but for some reason virtually every sitcom ever made has an episode where a character (usually an unlicensed kid) crashes a car into a house.

This situation wouldn't be funny in real life, but do you know who are funny in real life yet rarely seen outside of a zoo but can be found in a ton of sitcoms too?

Chimpanzees, that's who, and it's no wonder writers include chimps in so many sitcoms even though nobody ever gets to hang out with them in real life- because the on-screen moments are priceless.

11 Secrets of Bodyguards

Personal security professionals, or bodyguards, may seem to live a glamorous life as they walk around with movie stars, world leaders, and rich people. But they are doing a job, one that requires training and a particular set of skills. Mental Floss talked to several bodyguards about what they do.

2. GUNS (AND FISTS) ARE PRETTY MUCH USELESS.

Depending on the environment—protecting a musician at a concert is different from transporting the reviled CEO of a pharmaceutical company—bodyguards may or may not come armed. According to Kent Moyer, president and CEO of World Protection Group and a former bodyguard for Playboy founder Hugh Hefner, resorting to gunplay means the security expert has pretty much already failed. “People don’t understand this is not a business where we fight or draw guns,” Moyer says. “We’re trained to cover and evacuate and get out of harm’s way. The goal is no use of force.” If a guard needs to draw a gun to respond to a gun, Moyer says he’s already behind. “If I fight, I failed. If I draw a gun, I failed.”

3. SOMETIMES THEY’RE HIRED TO PROTECT EMPLOYERS FROM EMPLOYEES.

Workplace violence has raised red flags for companies who fear retribution during layoffs. Alan Schissel, a former New York City police sergeant and founder of Integrated Security, says he dispatches guards for what he calls “hostile work termination” appointments. “We get a lot of requests to provide armed security in a discreet manner while somebody is being fired,” he says. “They want to be sure the individual doesn’t come back and retaliate.”

There are more secrets about the work of a bodyguard you can learn at Mental Floss.

Solo: A Star Wars Story Trailer Recut To 'Sabotage' By The Beastie Boys

Han Solo and the Beastie Boys don't have anything in common other than their connection to 80s pop culture, but when you bring these two forces of freshness together they make a pretty good pair, err I mean quartet. Quintet? Yeah, that one.

Anyhoo, the Solo: A Star Wars Story trailer felt a bit lacking on its own, but when Chris Galegar of War Starts At Midnight recut the trailer to the Beastie Boys song Sabotage the fans were like "I love you" and Chris was like "I know".

How Gin Went From Scourge to Savior

Gin is becoming popular in Britain -again. It first happened in the 17th century, when the juniper-flavored liquor made its way to England from the Netherlands. The populace loved it so much that unscrupulous manufacturers turned to spiking it with dangerous additives to keep the price down, which eventually led to the Gin Act of 1751, restricting the manufacture and sale of gin to licensed businesses. That hampered, but didn't stop, the illegal trade in gin.

A conman/adventurer named Dudley Bradstreet took advantage of the 1751 crackdown to start his own bootlegging business, with help from a giant cat-shaped vending machine:

“I then caused a leaden pipe, the small end out about an inch, to be placed under the paw of the cat, the end that was within had a funnel to it … When the liquor was properly disposed, I got a person to inform a few of the mob that gin would be sold by the cat at my window next day, provided they put money in his mouth … at last I heard the chink of money and a comfortable voice say, ‘Puss, give me two pennyworth of gin!’ I instantly put my mouth to the tube and bid them receive it from the pipe under her paw.”

Gin's reputation turned around with the British Empire encountered malaria, and the gin and tonic was born. Read more about the peculiar history of gin at Quartzy. -via Strange Company

Learning to Play the Shenanigan

Let Greig Johnson introduce you to the "ancient, elegant instrument" known as the shenanigan. It's a pretty intricate musical instrument, so you'll have to pay close attention. Okay, you won't actually learn how to play it from this video, but you can watch him give it a go and enjoy the music.

(YouTube link)

This video has subtitles, but don't focus on them. You can probably understand what he's saying ...somewhat. On second thought, you should listen and watch the subtitles at the same time. Trust me. And don't miss the details of the shenanigan. You may have to watch more than once. -via Tastefully Offensive

BOOB TRICK - Staring You Are, Like It I Do Not

BOOB TRICK by geekchic tees

Some guys act like boobs force them to stare, like they have some sort of hypnotic power over their minds that captures their attention and won't allow them to look away, but the truth is these guys were never taught manners or they're just straight up a-holes. If these rude dudes had been raised right they would know better than to sit and stare at a woman's chest, but they think there'll be no repercussions for their boorish behavior, so they must be shown the error of their ways. And whether women think the right way to do that is by being rude to them, utterly ignoring them or declare outright war against their sexist ways they're all right- because the right way to handle these jerks is leave them loveless and forever alone until they learn to stop being such pigs!

Show the world you're a rebel with better things to do than be ogled by boors by wearing this BOOB TRICK t-shirt by Geekchic Tees, it's a humorous way to diffuse an otherwise uncomfortable situation and declare your independence from objectification.
