Man Climbed Poland's Highest Peak and Found a Cat Just Chillin' at the Summit

Alex

"Meowntain" climbing, you say?

When Wojtek Jabczynski reached the top of 8,212-ft tall Rysy mountain in Poland, he was surprised to find a tabby cat just hangin' round, casually licking its paws.

From OddityCentral:

Jabczynski said that the cat didn’t appear to be concerned about the cold or afraid of humans and even approached him as he took out his lunch from the backpack, but apparently his cheese roll wasn’t to appealing.

The mountain climber was clever enough to take photos and video of the cat, because, who'd believe his story otherwise?

Allan Dixon - Master of the Animal Selfie

Allan Dixon, self-described animal whisperer and adventurer, has mastered the art of taking selfies with animals.

Dixon told Bored Panda it could take “anywhere between five minutes to three hours of being in the animals presence” to take a selfie. “It depends on the animal and how safe it feels. What the photos don’t show is the amount of dirt that ends up on my clothes because of being on the ground. But the results are worth it.”

A word of caution for those considering taking selfies with animals themselves:

“[they] should be very careful as to not upset or provoke the animal when they’re trying to take the photo. Gain the animal’s trust in a calm relaxed manner and the results will be golden. Make sure it’s not a crocodile.”

Check out more of Allan's photos at Bored Panda and his Instagram account.

Boris Karloff's Thriller

Among the many quality anthology TV series of the the mid-20th century, few people today are familiar with the short-lived Thriller. The show ran only two years, from 1960 to 1962, and was hosted by the legendary horrormeister Boris Karloff.

Thriller originally presented little more than quite ordinary tales on crime and mystery, the content and format (including a host and his opening narration) being in apparent imitation of the popular contemporary program Alfred Hitchcock Presents.  However, it soon became a showcase for gothic horror stories, many of which were based on works by authors who were the greatest writers in the genre, such as Edgar Allan Poe, Cornell Woolrich, Robert Bloch, Robert E. Howard, Richard Matheson, and Charlotte Armstrong.

As would also occur later during the 1960’s with the gothic daytime television series Dark Shadows, Thriller’s producers quickly came to realize that television viewers of that era had a pronounced taste for horror and the supernatural, as opposed to mere mystery and crime drama, and there came a sea change in Thriller as a result. Suddenly, instead of mere mystery and ‘cops and robbers’ intrigue, there soon appeared a host of zombies, witches, demons, vampires, ghosts, ghouls, sorcerers, voodoo practitioners, and other unworldly beings and things, with a much greater thematic emphasis on supernatural horror.

The effect was astounding. Thriller quickly became one of the first, if not the first, ‘must-see TV’ programs of the 1960’s, and it has since garnered a cult following that is active to this day.

If you enjoyed The Twilight Zone and Alfred Hitchcock Presents, you'll love watching Thriller. Read a full rundown of the TV series, including full videos of the best episodes, in an article by Neatoramanaut WTM.

Kitchen Tools for the Blind

People who are blind can become very good at negotiating the world by touch, but that presents real hazards while cooking, specifically sharp knives and burning heat. Kevin Chiam designed some kitchen products to mitigate these dangers during his final year at the National University of Singapore. You can see that if these came to market, sighted people would use them, too. Chiam explains the design behind the products at his website.  -via reddit

Boston Man Thoroughly Reviews The New Dunkin' Coffee Porter

Harpoon's official site states the beer's aroma has “espresso up front, followed by notes of dark chocolate and slight vanilla,” and its taste has a “strong coffee flavor, with dark roasty notes” that finishes “clean with slight coffee bitterness.”

This Boston mans, Micheal Walsh's, first reaction was, “Wow, this takes exactly like black coffee beer.” He states that the description on their site is spot on, describing the brew as bitter black coffee flavored with a dark chocolate kick with a hint of vanilla.

As a professional, he tried one with every meal of the day, and found in the end that it goes best with breakfast foods. He stated that "it genuinely went well with my ham, egg, and cheese bagel sandwich, like having a cold, tasty adult iced coffee."

Vancouver Police Dog Calendar 2019

Alex

Vancouver Police Department Canine Unit has just released their 2019 charity calendar, and the pics are stunning!

“The calendar was started in 2009 by retired Vancouver Police Sergeant Mike Anfield in honour of his wife, VPD Constable Candy Anfield who lost her battle with breast cancer in 2004,” Social Media Liaison officer for the Vancouver Police Department, Anne-Marie Clark told Bored Panda. “Proceeds from the sale of the calendars go towards the B.C.
