My kids know that asking me a question usually requires them to get me a beer first.

This could also be a flowchart. The kids ask "Where's Mom?" and IF Dad says "She's asleep," then they can ask HIM those questions. Otherwise, they ask Mom.

Because they won't like the answers Dad gives.
