Toasted Fluffernutters with Cabernet Chocolate Fondue

A fluffernutter is a traditional food of the natives of Massachusetts. It consists of a sandwich made on white bread with marshmallow fluff and peanut butter. Tieghan of Half Baked Harvest made a luxurious version with chocolate for, she says, "I think that chocolate is mandatory today."

She made her fluff from scratch with cream of tartar, egg whites and sugar. Her chocolate fondue recipe is unusual. It contains espresso powder and a Cabernet wine.

The Art of Cheetos

The Execution-Style Killing of a Man for Being Different

What is art? We could address that question at great length. What is beauty? Well, obviously Cheetos. That's an easy question with an obvious answer. Beauty=Cheetos.

The Instagram account Cheese Curls of Instagram is filled with photos of Cheetos that resemble things in the eyes of its anonymous creator. What do you see when you look at Cheetos?

Sweethearts Piñata Cake

This cake by Beth Jackson Klosterboer is like a piñata, but you shouldn't hit it with a stick. All you need to do to open it up is to cut a slice. It's shaped like Sweethearts candy and is appropriately filled with Sweetheart candies.

The obvious next step would be to make a Sweetheart-shaped piñata cake filled with Sweetheart piñata cakes filled with Sweetheart candies.

The Pretzel Croissant is the Cronut of the Pretzel World

(Photo: Cream and Sugar)

Foodbeast prefers the term "pretzsant," but the official name of this treat is the pretzel croissant. City Bakery in New York City now offers it for sale. Cream of the foodblog Cream and Sugar visited the bakery to try it.

She calls it "one of the best things you could ever put in your mouth" and "a must-add to your list of NYC food adventures." Cream says that it has a flaky crust and a chewy center. There's no rock salt, but the dough is salty.

Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Wedding Cake

Jessica Pan decided to celebrate the 147th anniversary of author Laura Ingalls Wilder’s birth by making an authentic birthday cake from her life. She decided to use her wedding cake recipe from the Little House Cookbook, because it seemed the most edible of the cake recipes. She did not reckon on having to beat ten egg whites by hand.

That afternoon the finished black cashmere was carefully pressed, and then Ma made a big, white cake. Laura helped her by beating the egg whites on a platter with a fork, until Ma said they were stiff enough.

“My arm is stiffer,” Laura ruefully laughed, rubbing her aching right arm.

“This cake must be just right,” Ma insisted. – These Happy Golden Years, 1943

*
That afternoon, Jess began separating 10 eggs as she attempted to make a traditional white cake from the pioneer years. Rachel helped her by watching.

“It says you have to beat the egg whites by hand to make it authentic,” Rachel said. Jess beat the eggs for 15 minutes and then rubbed her aching right arm.

“This is bullshit. I’m getting the electric mixer,” Jess said, heading towards the cupboard. – What actually happened, 2014

Trying to recreate a cake recipe from over 100 years ago is not as easy as you might think. I would have used an egg beater. In fact, I would bet that the Ingalls did as well, but that detail didn't make it into the Little House books. Read the rest of the ordeal at The Hairpin. The recipe is included. -via Metafilter

Croissant Earrings

Etsy seller Stephanie Kilgast makes hyper-realistic miniature sculptures of food. They look good enough to eat and small enough to stay within in a diet! But they're actually made of polymer clay, so I wouldn't recommend eating them.

These rolls will remind you of a pleasant brunch on a lazy weekend. All they need is a coffee cup nose ring and a fresh fruit belly button ring to form a complete continental breakfast.

Pretty in Pink

Holly’s favorite color is obviously pink, and that’s the one color she did not get on her birthday cake. Wait -she DID get pink, only it’s the word -written in, um, lavender. The text is clearly taken directly from the instructions. Cake Wrecks has a post with ten cakes, almost all of which have the color instructions written out in icing. A couple actually had the word iced in the correct color.

S'More Calzones

(Photo: Brendan Spiegel)

Calzones are handy foods for busy people on the go. Just bake a pizza and fold it over. If you're in a hurry to stuff yourself with chocolate and marshmallows, then this s'more calzone is ideal for your active lifestyle.

Matthew and Emily Hyland own Emily, a pizzeria in Brooklyn. They specialize in Neapolitan style pizza. Brendan Spiel of Brooklyn Based visited and reviewed their offerings, including this sweet calzone made like a s'more.

Beer and Wine Pairings for Girl Scout Cookies

(Photo: Beer & Brewing)

Friday is the beginning of Girl Scout Cookie season (not rabbit or duck season). After you've gorged yourself on 3 boxes of Thin Mints in as many minutes, wash down your shame with an appropriate beer or wine selection. Beer & Brewing rounded up suggestions from around the web for which beers or wines to responsibly consume with particular cookies. Here's what the Beer Chicks recommend for Thin Mints:

Thin mints + Hitachino Nest Espresso Stout,Kiuchi Brewery, Japan. 7.5% ABV. - The Thin Mint is a masterpiece on its own, but paired with this thick stout from one of our favorite breweries out of Japan, the thin mint takes on another level of decadence.  The minty chocolate mixed with coffee is like a peppermint mocha, and carries the kick of coffee and alcohol.  We can polish off a whole box of thin mints no problem, and this is the perfect beer with which to wash those babies down!

If you love Somoas, then Melissa Mackaly of Central Track recommends Dirty Bastard:

Samoas.
• A crisp cookie coated in caramel, sprinkled with toasted coconut and striped with a dark chocolate coating.
• Paired best with a red dessert wine such as a Port, or an 8.5 percent ABV heavy ale, like a Founders Dirty Bastard.

I'm really not sure about these picks. It would be helpful if the Girl Scouts themselves provided a pairing guide or trained their door-to-door salespeople on the subject.

Taco Flavored Yogurt?

Look again. Or look at a larger size picture. You will be forgiven for being confused; so was redditor fishgod when he looked in the refrigerator. This kind of thing can happen when you buy store brands that are all labeled alike. The thread at reddit caused readers to look closely and then post around a thousand comments about how wonderful Publix is. I believe they are all hungry. Next up: the development of taco-flavored yogurt.

How to Make Cereal Tea

Aaron Geman has developed an ingenious solution for a problem that has plagued humanity for millennia. What do you do when you have eaten all of your cereal, but still have milk left in your bowl? Don't let that milk go to waste. Flavor it with cereal.

Now Geman would like to stress that he is a mature adult and not inclined to simply dump powdered cereal in his milk:

Now, any two-bit hack can flavor some milk with cereal and then ditch the cereal. That is not our style. We are refining that process: lending an air of dignity to an otherwise childish act. In proper, tea-bag-in-tea-cup format, our tasty cereal beverage is as appropriate around the office as it is around the house.

Geman's solution began with carefully opening and emptying teabags. Then he pulverized quality breakfast cereals, added the powder to the teabags and resealed them.

You see where this is going? Well, Geman went even further. He added appropriate labels for the teabags and even built a teabag dispensing box from a matching single-serving cereal box. Then he heated milk and soaked the teabag--er, cerealbag--in it. Perfect!

Be sure to read Geman's entire description of the process, which is quite funny.

Tie-Dye Cheesecake

This is real! Redditor shorty12075 posted this photo of a mind-altering cheesecake. S/he found it at a Mellow Mushroom in Summerville, South Carolina. If that's too far for you to travel, then you can make your own using this recipe. It's a totally groovy dessert concept.
