30 Days Without Sugar

(YouTube link)

Three people take the challenge to give up sugar for a month -which also includes giving up artificial sweeteners and honey. These are folks who drank soda all day, so it was not easy, but it was a life-changing experience. Do you think you could survive a month without sugar?

My daughter went on the Daniel fast a couple of years ago, which was three weeks of no sugar, meat, dairy, fried food, or processed grains. It was difficult shopping for such a diet, because when you read ingredients, everything in the store has added sugar! Even in the health food section, you see “dehydrated organic cane syrup,” which is a euphemism for sugar. I still don’t understand why a can of kidney beans has sugar in it. But she managed it, and learned to love a variety of fruits and vegetables along the way (she learned to cook, too). Two years later, she still eats healthily, and I keep a never-ending seasonal fruit bowl for the whole family to enjoy.

Bigfoot Bundt Cake

Bigfoot Bundt Cake

Big news! Bigfoot has been found...inside a bundt cake! Jenn Fujikawa over at Nerdist used a Bigfoot cookie cutter to make him appear inside this tasty treat.

Sasquatch. Yeti. Bigfoot. He goes by so many names, yet he’s still an enigma. He could be behind that tree in the woods, or perhaps in the icy mountain of a theme park ride, but most likely you’ll find him… in a bundt cake.

Want to make it? The recipe and tutorial are available at Nerdist.

Foods That are Great on the Grill

Grilled BBQ Chicken Quesadillas | Image and Recipe: The Chic Site

Those who like to cook know that high heat can make for wonderful delights, such as all things carmelized. When some foods are placed on the grill, sugary magic happens  particularly with fruits. One of my favorite sweet summer dishes is grilled peaches with cinnamon sugar and a little butter. I'm also a big fan of grilled pineapple. If you like grilled shish kebabs with pineapple, you know that the fruit has a more complex and delicious flavor when grilled.

This article lists 25 foods that are great on the grill. Take a look to get some good ideas before your next grilling session.

Sushi Bazooka

SUSHI BAZOOKA

This is the Sushezi, or what the Internet has deemed the "Sushi Bazooka" for obvious reasons. It looks like something straight out of Japan, but it's actually a product of a New Zealand company.

You open it up, put a bed of rice down, add your fillings, and then push it together to "load" the barrel.

Rocketnews24 reports that the contraption doesn't "blast the sushi roll out of the barrel" but that "it’s more of a slow ooze, rather than an explosion." How disappointing. Still, it looks pretty cool.

Watch the slow sushi ooze coming out of the barrel in this video by Seiken TV. It gets really good around the 2:48 mark:

You can also use it to make chocolate salamis, ginger-nut logs, and similary-rolled foods. It's available on Amazon for $26.

Fruity Pebbles Ice Cream Cone

After making an ice cream cone out of Rice Krispie treats, it occurred to Nick Chipman of DudeFoods that he could make something similar with Fruity Pebbles, the colorful Flintstones-themed cereal. He used a Rice Krispie treat recipe, but substituted Fruity Pebbles for Rice Krispies. So with butter, marshmallows, and a big heap of chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream, he made a complete meal that fits in one hand.

I wonder what other cereals would work well with this approach. Maybe big biscuit Shredded Wheat or Urkel-os.

This Restaurant/Bar Offers 1,440 Different Types of Bloody Marys

(Photo: The Wayfarer)

The Wayfarer is a high-end restaurant and bar in New York City. The bar has so many options that you can design a Bloody Mary cocktail from among 1,440 possible permutations. Tony Meverick reports for Thrillist:

Here's the deal: the base price per Bloody Mary is $12, which includes three options from the card. After that, each additional option is 50 cents. First you pick your alcohol (options like vodka, flavored vodka, chili liqueur, and more), then the base (traditional, spicy, tomato water, or the chef's favorite, Green Juice), then you choose what goes on the rim (things like poppy and sesame seed, paprika, celery salt, salt and pepper, and more), and finally, the topping (shrimp, jerky, roasted tomato, cheddar cheese, pork rind, and more). In other words, you'll probably have to have more than one to truly experience such freedom.

But I can find no evidence that you can get a Bloody Mary that includes an entire deep fried chicken. This seems like a serious oversight for a restaurant that wants to set itself apart from the proles.

P.S. This is how you mix a Miss Cellania:

1/2 cup of espresso
2 oz. Kahlua
2 oz. Tia Maria

Serve hot, then run away as fast as you can.

10 Hilariously Cheesy Fast Food Training Videos

(Image Link)

Working in the fast food industry means having the worst experiences with customers, feeling underappreciated, and discovering that you no longer like fast food because you're around it all the time.

A new hire's journey into the depths of Kentucky Fried madness started with a simple training video, a cheesy video entree that made new employees feel like dipping their heads in the fryer!

1. Hardee's "Your Reputation Is On The Line" (1988)-

Hardee's has a reputation for making high quality hamburgers quickly, so their employees are expected to put their reputations on the line every time they hand a burger to a hungry person.

As a new employee of Hardee's you're expected to follow sequence in order to preserve your reputation because "when we don't follow sequence we tend to get lost". Wait, is Hardee's actually a cult?

2. McDonald's "Clean It" (1984)-

When you want to encourage your employees to keep their McDonald's location spotless you offer up an incentive, and in the 80s the best(?) incentive was a visit from Michael Jackson!

Sadly, these employees never got to meet the real MJ, only a sad imitator who, admittedly, has some serious moonwalking skills and a sweet sparkly jumpsuit. Where's Ronald when you need him?

Are You Ready for Ben & Jerry's Beer?

Ben & Jerry's featured a beer-flavored ice cream in their recipe book, but now they're taking it a step further by partnering with New Belguim to create a beer that's flavored like ice cream. Specifically, their new flavor will mimick their Salted Caramel Blondie flavor and will be called Salted Caramel Brownie Brown Ale.

Of course, in yet another example of "this is why adults can't have nice things," some groups are already up in arms, claiming that the company is obviously marketing to children and showing them that beer is just one step away from children. I can't wait to hear what they say when B&J releases the marijuana-infused ice cream they're planning to sell in states where the drug has been legalized.
