Scrubbing Bubbles Cake

Jean Schapowal, a baker on Long Island, made this cake that looks like the mascot of the Scrubbing Bubbles brand of household cleaners. Will it clean your bathroom tile effectively? Let's find out.
Demonic Bread

Get the exorcist here right now. Twitter user korpi_miomo made cheesebread, presumably using a recipe from a culinary grimoire. This was the horrifying result.
The Market for Gourmet Cupcakes is Crashing
It
is, according to The Wall Street Journal. After flying high for several
years, the market for gourmet cupcakes is experiencing something like
a sugar crash:Crumbs rivals include people like Cynthia Hankerson, owner of the three-year-old Cupcake Salon in Jersey City, N.J. Sales at her bakery cafe are slipping and she said she suspects the cupcake fad may be waning. Last year, a typical Saturday brought in an average of $600 to $700 in sales for her signature cupcakes, which come in flavors like pistachio, amaretto vanilla and strawberry banana. But now "we're lucky if we get $300," she says. "People get tired of things," the 42-year-old adds.

What is American Flavor?

Rusty Blazenhoff saw "cool American" flavor Doritos for sale in Iceland. So what flavor is cool American? The picture would lead one to believe that would be nacho cheese, but it's really ranch. So now we know the flavor the world associates with the USA. Learn more at Laughing Squid. Link

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Cocktail

In the Goblet of Fire drinking game, once you are chosen as a Champion, you must drink. Ashley Brice and Liana Cole designed a cocktail inspired by the fourth novel and movie in the Harry Potter series. They also designed cocktails inspired by and named for the characters Fleur Delacour, Viktor Krum and Cedric Diggory. You can find their recipes at the link.

Veggieanatomy

Has anyone ever told you that you had a head full of corncobs? Artist Klaus Weber created an anatomical model with organs made of vegetables. A celery heart makes a heart, potatoes serve as the intestines, and I believe that may be a big yam in place of the liver. Is this what vegans look like inside? Link -via Laughing Squid
Brain Sushi

Hannibal Lecter is getting on in years. A bit of fish will be good for his heart.

Amazing Sushi Art

The sister of redditor mala_cavilla works at Sushi Planet in Philadelphia. She's a wizard disguised as a chef. Can you eat her sushi before it eats you?

Fried Piranha

I know that it's dead but...I'm still too scared to try to eat it. Thankfully, the staff at Rocket News 24 found someone with the courage necessary to try this Japanese dish:
The piranha was fried with sauce but still clearly resembled a whole piranha, ravenous jagged mouth agape. Usagi squeezed a twist of lemon over it with a shaky hand. The fish looked as if it could suddenly reanimate and take its revenge.
Realizing that was silly, Usagi took a breath and got ready to eat. By this time she thought the whole scene was a little too chic to being eating such a vicious predator.
Laughing to herself, she cut into the body. Her knife and fork clattered onto the plate as she suddenly let them slip out of her hands. From within the fish came a foul odor which stopped her in her tracks. Composing herself, our reporter tried to push through and, spearing a morsel of fish with her fork, she tossed it into her mouth… Try to enjoy it as she might, the smell completely overpowered the fish’s taste.
Nutella Cream Pie with Oreo Crust

Doesn't that title sound heavenly? Amy Brown, the Project Princess, has the complete recipe and assures you that the pie tastes much better than the picture looks. That only shows how difficult food photography really is. It looks fine to me. This is a real cream pie, so you'll need heavy cream and lots of eggs. Link -Thanks, Don!
Coconuts
The folks from The Perennial Plate visit a family-run coconut plantation in Sri Lanka, where we find out way more than we ever knew about coconuts. Every part of the tree is used, from the fronds to the alcoholic flower nectar. The coconuts are used in every way possible, too, for food, oil, rope, and even toys. -Thanks, Mirra!
Camouflage Cupcakes

Those My Little Pony cupcakes are a tasty treat to haul up to your treestand, but their bright colors may attract the attention of your prey. You're better off with a snack that blends in with your surrounding environment. Lilly's cupcakes, both the frosting and the cakes, are made with a traditional woodland camouflage pattern. You can find her instructions on how to make them at the link.
Resignation Cake

Chris Holmes had a good job as an immigration officer for UK Border Force, but his passion is making cakes. You can read on this cake how he made the decision to quit his job and devote himself to his bakery business Mr. Cake. He couldn't have found a sweeter way to quit than to present his supervisors with a delicious cake, which he did Monday. It's a "spiced carrot cake with pecans and sultanas and coconut" with orange icing. His former colleagues with him the best. Link -via Buzzfeed, where you can see more resignation cakes.

Wine Pairings for Fast Food

Most fast food establishments offer a depressingly limited wine list. You may have to supplement by bringing your own bottle inside the McDonald's. If you do so, make sure that you're choosing the right wine. Dominique Zamora has some good suggestions, such as this Clara Brut champagne which has a honey tone that accompanies Chicken McNuggets well.
You can read her other wine pairings at the link, including selections for Taco Bell, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Subway and other gourmet eateries.
