Visit the "Prison Cafeteria" to Eat Just Like a Prisoner

prison cafeteria

There's a cafeteria at the Abashirishi Prison Museum in northern Japan. There you can eat just like a convict. Rocket News 24 sentenced a correspondent to visit and report back:

Perhaps Kuzo’s biggest apprehension was just how the food would taste. Being prison food, it’s hard not to hold the preconception of things being a little on the bland side. However, to his surprise, the meal was not wanting in flavor, with the sweetness of the Japanese radish complementing the rice and the aroma of the mackerel creating a taste-bud explosion. [...]

The mackerel on offer here is garnished with grated Japanese radish which complements the mackerel superbly. To make an already delicious meal even more tantalizing, sprinkling a little soy sauce on the fish and taking a mouthful along with the rice really does give the meal a sophisticated edge.

Pair of Melons Sells for $17,500 in Japan

melon

A lovely pair of melons was auctioned off last Friday in Japan. They're Yubari melons, which are considered to be the finest available in that country:

In a country where a single apple can cost more than $5 and a presentation pack of 20 cherries sells for over $100, Japanese shoppers are used to paying high prices for their fruit.

But the eye-watering figures paid at the Sapporo Central Wholesale Market in northern Hokkaido reflect buyers' desire for prestige.

Yubari melons are considered a status symbol in Japan like a fine wine, with many buyers presenting them as a gift to friends and colleagues.

Deep Fried Bacon and Beer Battered Doritos Taco

deep fried

Taco Bell sells tacos made with Doritos flavors. Unlike my healthy veganish smoothie version, this variation by Nick of DudeFoods may be just a bit fattening. He removed the contents of one such taco, dipped it in beer batter, applied bacon and deep fried it.

Ravioli Pizza Can Up Your Carb Levels Quick

I've seen ricotta on pizza before, but it just looks so sloppy sitting there all alone. That's why Little Vincent's is so smart -they opted to seal all that messy ricotta in ravioli before covering it in mozzarella. It's so much more organized when the ricotta is separated in their own protective pockets.

3D Stand Mixer Cookies

cookies

Jasmin Fine loves her stand mixer a lot. If you don't believe me, at the link, you can see romantic photos of the two of them together.

So it's only fitting that she made freestanding three-dimensional cookies that look like her metallic friend. She made the bowls with a brownie pop mold and used royal icing to bind the components together.

The Deep-Fried Lasagna Bun Burger

Sometimes, it's important to step back and realize that you typical cheeseburger just isn't messy or fatty enough. Fortunately, Philly restaurant PYT is here to help with a burger that features a bun made from two chunks of deep-fried lasagna.

I'll be honest, I think most calorie-bomb foods look disgusting because the main point is only to add extra fat, but as someone who loves lasagna almost as much as Garfield, I would scarf this thing up in a heartbeat.

17 Desserts You Can Grill

It's barbecue season again, and while most people limit their grilling to meats and a few veggie sides, why not go all out and cook your dessert on the grill? As some one who has cooked all variety of things on the grill while waiting for the coals to cool down, I can tell you that grilled berries, stone fruits and pineapple are absolutely amazing. Add a little ice cream or chocolate and you've got yourself a dessert. I've also cooked donuts over a campfire (I really like roasting things on an open flame) and can assure you they would also be heavenly on the grill.

I'll Have S'more Pie Pops Please

S'mores and pie pops? Why are you even still reading this? Why aren't you running to the kitchen with the recipe in your hand yet?

Oh, you say it's because it's not technically a s'more without graham crackers?

Fair enough S'more snob, but you know these still look delicious.

A Feast of Fire and Ice

Thursday night, New York City residents who are fans of Game of Thrones were able to enjoy A Feast of Fire and Ice at Percy's Tavern, thanks to the bar's owner, Larry Watson, and Westeros-themed bakery owner Claudia Smith. The event featured a costme contest, dead boars, goblets of poppy milk, fortune telling and more.

Victoria McNally of Geekosystem was there and her pictres from the event are the next best thing to going in person.

Chocolate Chip Cookies and Milk Cupcakes

If anything is better than chocolate chip cookies and milk, then it's chocolate chip cupcakes with chocolate chip cookie dough in the middle and milk-flavored frosting made with sweetened condensed milk. Don't forget to decorate them with a small cookie or milk-carton candy on top.

Oreo Banana Pudding

Oreo

Yummy! And the recipe is so simple that even I can't screw it up! All it takes is instant banana pudding, Cool Whip, sliced bananas, milk and a one-pound bag of Oreo cookies. But just to be on the safe side, use two.

Cannibal! The Wine

The Alamo Drafthouse might just be the most famous independant theater chain in the world and that isn't going to change any time soon, especially now that they started making limited edition signature wines based on The Silence of the Lambs. Personally, I'm particularly interested in "The Cannibal," which is said to pair very well with liver and fava beans.

The Cake Of Dragons

Better not light too many candles on this birthday cake or those eggs might hatch...and while that would make a pretty sweet birthday present for Reddit user Trustysidekick, it could also be a major party killer when the guests start to flee out of fear.
