The True Origin Of Cthulhu

Most fans believe H.P. Lovecraft drew inspiration for the Cthulhu mythos from a variety of sources- Science fiction and mythological beings as the physical inspiration for the creatures, cosmic indifferentism and nihilism as the philosophical influence behind the stories, and horror the plot vehicle that drives the terror home.

I suppose the kids are outside and all but I'm not sure I buy that it's great that their "imaginative play" is essentially directed by (and almost confined by the structure to) a multi-million dollar grossing movie series and associated toys. (A movie which, by the by, had no good or important or fun parts for girls to play -- granted, assuming the kids were flexible enough, girls could "fan fic" in their own characters -- but I kind of prefer that big, permanent playthings be more neutral.
