How to Make Bunny Pancakes

Before I looked at the tutorial, I tried to figure out how Jenni Price made these amazing pancakes. How do you make one pancake multiple colors?

Here's what you do: apply your batter with squeezable bottles. Do so while the griddle is still cold. This lets you create an outline for your rabbit face, which you can then fill in while the pancakes are warming.

Pregnant Belly Casting

Kelley of Enter Gently is a mother of six children. During five of those pregnancies, she made plaster casts of her belly as keepsakes. The lower photo shows her son Ever inside his own cast. If you'd like to make your own cast, you can find Kelley's instructions at the link.

April Fools' Day Jokes For Kids

Happy April Fools' Day everyone. Do you have big dreams of plotting pranks against your kids and other family members, but don't know where to start? You should check out Heather Kempski's article on 10 Best April Fools' jokes for kids.   This is one of my favorite suggestions:
Mess with breakfast (or lunch or dinner). Put gummy worms in their scrambled eggs, green food coloring in their milk or switch out cereal boxes. Franklin mom Kellie Carrara told her daughter they were having fish for dinner. “She HATES fish. I served her a plate of multi-colored big and little SWEEDISH Fish and told her she had to clean her entire plate!”

Her suggestions are funny, not mean, family friendly practical jokes.

Custom Baby Rattles Shaped like the Silhouettes of Mommy and Daddy

Russell Greenberg, a designer who lives in New York City, makes custom objects that look like the silhouettes of specific people. His own wedding ring, for example, has the outline of his wife's face. My favorites, though, are the baby rattles that look like parents.

12-Year Old Completes World's First 1080 on a Skateboard

(Video Link)

Tom Schaar is only twelve years old, but he already has bragging rights for life. What did you do when you were twelve? Because this kid broke a world record. He's the first person to ever do a complete 1080° turn -- that's three full rotations -- on a skateboard. He did it this past Monday on a ramp at a sports camp at Tehachapi, California.

Alicia Silverstone is getting all kinds of flak for her unique method of feeding her baby. Let's call it Mama bird style. Yes folks, she chews the food and spits it into her baby's mouth. Are you ready to follow in the footsteps of this celebribaby trend?

Decipher The Doodle Contest #7

Hello Neatoramanauts and welcome to our seventh Decipher The Doodle Contest.  This doodle was created by my 5-year-old daughter.  I dare you to delve into the mind of this pint-sized artist and tell me what her doodle means.

We will award 2 prizes.  One to the first person to come up with the most correct answer.  The second for the funniest but ultimately wrong answer.  The winners will win a T-shirt from the NeatoShop and be featured in next weeks post.

Please write your T-shirt selection alongside your guess (suggestion: Science T-shirts / Funny & One Liners).  If you don’t include a selection, you forfeit the prize, okay?

Happy commenting!

Update (4/06/2012): The contest is now over. The winners will be announced shortly.

Short People

(YouTube link)

The "Kangaroo class" at the Sullivan School in Seoul, South Korea performs Randy Newman's song "Short People." They may be short, but they will get taller someday! They were supposed to sing this song with frowning faces, but they had a hard time keeping the smiles down. Iowa native Peter Strutt teaches English School of Rock-style to his 4-year-old students. See more videos of the class performing songs by David Bowie, Janis Joplin, and more at banjois' YouTube channel. Link -via Everlasting Blort

Tron Baby Stroller

David Delony of Walyou's first thought was "Tron." That's a good interpretation, but Bhautik Joshi is actually going for the classic lowrider look. He plans to add rims and hydraulics next.

Secret Passage in Back of Wardrobe Leads to Hidden Narnia-Themed Playroom

A friend of redditor kelseypolo built a new house that has a secret playroom decorated with images from The Chronicles of Narnia. His nine-year old daughter can access it through a small passage hidden in the back of a wardrobe. Awesome! You can view more pictures at the link.

Naturally, some redditors have more puckish ideas about what to do with it:

If it was my kid, I would let her have the room until she starts to lose interest in it, and then I would quietly cover the back of the wardrobe and seal the room. Eventually, she'll want to go back to Narnia, but all she'll find is an ordinary wardrobe and a solid wall behind it, and I will maintain that the room she keeps talking about never existed.

Admittedly, this is probably why I should not have children.

Baby Holster

Baby Björns are cute and practical but...well, they just feel odd at the range or the stockyard or the tractor pull. Andy Herald has a great solution that should go into immediate production.
