It's awkward in places because older people don't really like the pressure of meeting others just for the purpose of evaluating whether to start a romantic relationship. On the other hand, I can tell you from experience that they don't want to waste any time with someone they aren't compatible with in some way. I've found the best relationships start when two people just can't stop talking to each other about anything and everything, whether it's toward a romantic end or not.
