Over the weekend, an airliner had to turn back to the gate and the crew summoned authorities because two passengers were fighting over an armrest. Yes, it seems ridiculous to get into it over something so trivial, but these kinds of situations are exactly what etiquette was developed for- so that everyone knows what is expected. Use of the limited armrests in an airplane should be common knowledge, but apparently some people need to be taught.
