Pretty sure stomach acid would need time to dissolve metal - more time than your body would allow. But I guess that's the point of the warning they give not to attempt it.

HCl=hydrochloric acid. I remember reading a Sci-Fi story about a blob like monster that got on a space ship and the only thing that could dissolve it was HCl. The crew had to eat it to survive.
