Because this is a family-friendly blog, I'm choosing images for this post very carefully. But once the kids are out of the room, check out Marie-Claude Marquis's entire portfolio of altered decorative plates.
Her exhibition, Weβre All Kinda F----d Up, faces the facts: we're broken people in a broken world. A bit of humor spices up the tragedy. She explains to Juxtapoz:
On the one hand, we think that we are the norm because what is normal for us is the life that we live that evolved from the same way of life before, and so on. So sometimes, we have trouble understanding people who come from another sphere or place. But on the other hand, we also think that we are incredibly special and that weβve gone through unique, difficult s--t that other people wonβt get. So often, we don't understand people who don't understand us anyway. But what is important is that in the end, we are all kinda weird, kinda f----d up. No one is perfect, everyone has problems and a story. We all want to love, to be loved, and to have a goal.
