Students Help the Disabled and Elderly with Yard Work for PE Credit

Yardwork becomes more and more common as the Summer months approach. For some, it is a blessing and delight, but for those who are hindered by physical circumstances, it's a dreadful season. Thankfully, students at the Alternative Learning Center are stepping in to help. As part of their school's initiative to encourage both the students and the people they're trying to help - the elderly and the disabled, the school will count the initiative to their physical education credits.

“The students and I and other students come out and help them. Could be raking leaves, pulling weeds, cutting grass, cleaning gutters, just depends on what they need.”
“The students aren’t typically too excited at the beginning but once they get involved and start doing the yard work they become more motivated. What they really like is A: helping people. They really like giving back to people and meeting the person.”
