While the other emperor penguins wear the required tuxedo, this penguin dresses in all black. Like the black leopard in Kenya, this is a rare mutation called melanism. It's even more rare that a penguin with such coloring would survive to adulthood, since the standard color scheme evolved for reasons of survival.
