But as you get older you realize people who poke fun are just jealous of your bravery, because they often secretly wish they were free to let their freak flag fly but are too worried about fitting in to give nonconformity a try.
So when photographer Holly Falconer and stylist Kylie Griffiths offered people the chance to become the person they've always secretly wished they could be they jumped at the chance to freak out for a day.
Going goth, punk or full blown Trekker may seem like no big deal to a geek, but to those who've chosen a more conservative look and lifestyle it's a bold step toward having more personal freedom.
