New Lucy Statue Unveiled

If Lucille Ball were alive today, she’s be turning 105 years old. Everyone loved Lucy, but not everyone loved the statue of Lucy that went up in 2009 in her hometown of Celoron, New York. The bronze statue by artist Dave Poulin didn’t look much like the Lucy we knew from her TV shows and movies. A Facebook group called We Love Lucy! Get Rid of this Statue started an online petition to get the statue replaced, which garnered lots of publicity last year. That effort has paid off. Artist Carolyn Palmer was commissioned to create a new statue of Lucy, and the seven-foot bronze likeness was unveiled today for the occasion of the actress’ birthday. You’d recognize that woman anywhere, wouldn’t you?
