Everybody should know how to whip up a batch of chocolate chip cookies, they're the magical munchies that never fail to put the muncher in a good mood, and they're so simple to make even kids can manage it.

But not all chocolate chip cookies are created equal, and the ingredients and ratio of each used in the cookie dough can have a very noticeable effect on the flavor, shape and consistency of the cookies.

I omit adding salt and just use salted, softened butter, dark brown sugar, baking soda and chill the dough overnight. If you tend to get an uncooked center you can try lifting the cookie sheet and lightly smacking it onto the oven rack. This will make the cookies 'drop' (deflate) and the cookie will then bake thoroughly. Or you can just make a small depression in the middle of the dough with your thumb or a small spoon before you put them into the oven.
