How Pokémon Get Their Names

(Pickled Comics/Mike Royer)

How many Pokémon are there? Um, a lot. Maybe 721, more or less? I can’t keep count.

That’s a lot of Pokémon. If you’re a Pokémon manufacturer, then you need a constant supply of names, which is why the Swedish language and Mexican restaurant menus exist (I checked: they were invented for this purpose).

I have a lot of useless information crammed into my brain. There are times when I know a lot of the answers. I feel especially good when I know the final one and all 3 contestants do not. The reality is that if I was keeping count, I probably know less than 50% of the answers. If I ever tried and got on the show it would be my luck that categories like 13th Century Bulgarian Poetry would be on the board. I still watch a lot, especially when someone is on with 5 or more wins.

The earlier format, where the players could buzz in early, is quite a downer for me, the viewer. I haven't even fully understood the question yet. I wonder if they are more predicting that they might know the answer by the time the question finishes, than actually knowing the answer.
