The challenge of using this backboard will be creating rules that players will want to use. Ilbot & Pons, a design studio in Berlin and Barcelona, designed it for Setouchi Triennale, an art festival in Japan.
The festival is aimed at reviving the arts among the small islands in Japan’s Inland Sea. This billboard is shaped like the island of Teshima, which is one of those islands. The exhibitors invited visitors to the installation, which closed a few days ago, to devise their own rules and play with each other.
How would you play it?
