Questions In Need of Answers - No. 3

It's time for another Questions In Need of Answers. Rather than Google for these answers, we put them to the neatoramanaut community. Because you guys are way smarter than Google's algorithms...

1. Our family recently inherited an Xbox. Much rejoicing! Problem is: Playing Xbox with a human 1/7th your age and 1/3 your size is hard. It's hard to find games we both like, we can both play, and it's especially hard to find kinect games that work for two people of such drastically different heights/sizes. Soooo, my question is: What are some games we should try that adult and 6-year-old could possibly play together, using kinect or controllers?

2. I'm tired of bad frozen pizza, which seems to be all we ever come home with. In your opinion(s), what's the best frozen pizza out there? Help!

My kids and I enjoy all of the Lego games for the 360 - take your pick: Batman, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Harry Potter, etc. If you get Star Wars - get the complete saga and definitely play the first part of any of the games that have 2 parts (Batman before Batman 2, etc). For the Kinect, we enjoy Kinect Party (free on XBLA...but this may be for Gold members) as well as Just Dance 4. Speaking of Xbox Gold - check techbargains.com and/or eBay before buying. Do not attach your credit card to the box, buy membership cards and redeem them from your browser (www.xbox.com). I've never paid more than $35/year of membership - there are always deals popping up for year membership cards on buy.com, eBay.com, newegg.com, etc.

Dr Oetker's thin-crust frozen Ristorante pizzas are quite good if you like thin crust pizzas. Sometimes they're hard to find...Food Lion has them, but Kroger's doesn't. As with most tasty foods, the serving size is something like 1/3 of the pizza, but I can split it with someone, or eat the whole thing if I'm hungry. Don't be scared off by the "Dr."...this isn't like South Beach Diet food or another "Dr."-endorsed food. According to the website's history, Dr. Oetker developed a superior baking powder in 1891.

Tombstone pizzas are my favorite frozen pizzas, although DiGiorno are good if you like the thicker crust. Regardless of brand, all of them are better if you use the Presto Pizzazz pizza cooker. I have had one for about 10 years and I love it!

In my opinion, there really is no such thing as a "good" frozen pizza - - no matter what brand you buy, if you just take it out of the box and slap it in the oven, you are still just going to have a nasty frozen pizza experience. What I do is just buy the cheap ones (Totino's party pizza - - on sale) and just use that as a starting point, adding my own extra toppings to make it a tasty pizza experience. You can get really creative, putting on various cheeses, pepperoni, sausage, sliced jalepenos, pineapple chunks, etc. I keep things like that on hand and it just takes a minute to doctor it up. Also, they are small, so you can make multiple, different ones to satisfy varying tastes. Another option is to buy the ready-made crusts (Boboli) and make your own pizza from the ground up - - I do this sometimes and my kids love them.

Chuck the XBox and get Backgammon or Chess. For the pizza problem I suggest Red Baron Mexican Style Pizza, add some McCormick Perfect Pinch® Salad Supreme Seasoning, Taco Bell sauce, Filé powder, pickelled bannana peppers and Mexican 4 Cheese shredded blend.

I usually buy a frozen/refrigerated pizza on nights when I do the grocery shopping because I never feel like cooking after a trip to the grocery store. When it come to frozen pizza I usually skip it and buy the grocery store brand pizza that is merely refrigerated in the deli department. It is about the same cost as frozen and I think it tastes slightly better. Often times I will buy a bell pepper or a few cherry tomatoes, olives, or some other pizza like ingredient for use in a different recipe later in the week and I will use just a bit of those ingredients to help spice up the store bought pizza.

If your family likes karaoke, there is a Kinect game available in the Xbox Live app store. It was free when I downloaded it a few months back. You get a few songs with it and then purchase other songs that you like.

Xbox Live Family Game night, this has five or six games you can play, handy if you do not have the board equivalent. Kinect Party is fun for everyone also.

Instead of frozen try the deli, they usually have pre-made uncooked pizza, those are much better than any frozen.

I really like Marifano pizza. I've only found it at the WalMart near me, but they have great toppings (the spinach & feta is a personal fave), or there's always Boboli crusts. Then you can just make your own :)

Freschetta with Rising Crust is the best I've had. DiGiorno RC is good too. Walmart store brand RC is surprisingly good for $3.99. I'm all about the crust, baby! The rising crust tastes more like real yeast dough which is what the pizza places use. Don't keep a RC in your freezer for more than 3 months or the yeast dies and you have flat doughy crust. Mama Celeste is good for the super cheapos. I spread some oil on the bottom of the crust before cooking to keep it from being so dry. Cook in a toaster oven or real oven.

I really enjoy playing Scribblenauts with my nieces. It’s a single player game, but everyone using their imagination to get through the puzzles is pretty fun.
We accidentally unleashed a My Little Pony zombie apocalypse on one of the levels… Oops. >_>;

1. my 5 year old loves Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy, since all we own is PS2. it's great because you can pop in with a two player mode to help them out. then drop out and have them back at one player again.
the refined gameplay vs. the first Lego Star Wars makes this a winner for my son.

We also tried Katamari Damacy & the sequel, We <3 Katamari. While he enjoyed rolling stuff up, the tank-style controllers (analog stick) for him was a bit challenging.

2. Pizza? we're not picky. so the 2 dollar Roma frozen pizza works for us (probably on the bad taste menu). Otherwise my homemade pizza is a hit. even for friends. I've masterd the Chicago Style Deepdish. but still working out how to get a new york thin without using a dough sheeting machine ;). recipe? send me an email i'll send the recipe: vanmeterx@gmail.com :)

1. I got Kinect Party when my son was 6 and if you can let yourself go and be silly it is fun to play. We also have Kinect sports, where you can take turns doing something like bowling. Both of those use the sensor. Using controllers, my son likes Angry Birds (but he likes Angry Birds everything so this is no surprise).

2. Trader Joe's makes a good deep dish pepperoni pizza. My only suggestion for cooking is to remove the pepperoni for the first 10 minutes of baking time, unless you like extremely crispy pepperoni. My kids like Amy's Organic cheese pizza, but one of them also thinks McDonalds has the best food in the entire world, so not sure this opinion is trustworthy (I myself like McDonalds, but I do not think it is the best food in the entire world).

If you are looking for something quick for one person you have to try the Red Baron Feasts For One. The first microwave pizza that I thought was really good. Unfortunately they are sometimes difficult to find in my area.

For full size oven pizza, I used to love DiGiorno, but they have changed it enough over the years that I'm not really a fan any more.
