Vintage Vandals

Reproposing items for art has been popular ever since (and probably before) Marcel Duchamp's Fountain. What about reproposing art for art though? That is a new trend. Duchamp took a toilet and turned it into art, these dubious artists are using thrift store paintings and making them almost pop-art like productions with monsters and ghouls.

Love the website, especially some of the tattoos. I do agree though, art is derivative. As Banksy says (stolen from Picasso) "The bad artists imitate, the great artists steal."

-Sidenote, With all these art-sy people reading the blog I was surprised not to get anyone commenting on the Marcel Duchamp reference!

Back in the 60's, Marty Balin from Jefferson Airplane did this to painting in hotel rooms. He'd get bored on tour and take down the paintings, and add new characters.

As you know, art is derivative. I doubt you have a claim.
