@Rebeccah - not everyone has the art skills to make one of these with their own felt. You are paying for the artist's (nice looking) designs that they probably spent a few hours designing, as well as the hour or two that it will take them to make the item for you, and also the time it takes them to converse with you, print the shipping labels and post it. So although some people could make their own with their $2 felt, it probably wouldn't look as nice, and they probably have other things they would rather do with their time. Some people like to support craftsmen and women that will hand make something for a fair wage (relatively locally, ie. not China), something that is also relatively exclusive (given that the seller is unlikely to make tens of thousands of them). FYI.
