For use in prisons so contraband cannot be hidden inside. I have a clear vintage Boombox around here someplace and I have seen clear TV sets in the past.

It looks remarkably like the Swintec I had back in the late 80's. Of course, I kept my spell-check behind and to the right and usually had a cup of coffee on it.

It's translucent because it's a throwback to the 1990s, and lots of consumer electronics were translucent back then. It was a common fad. Why hasn't it been updated? Well, why would anyone update a typewriter?
