Petting a Gray Whale in the Wild

Dr. Nigella Hillgarth, director of the Birch Aquarium at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, took this picture during an outing last month off the coast of Baja California.
The Young Gray Whale came up to our Boat and put its head up - a life changing experience

Actually Lori, around here you're supposed to keep a certain distance away from the whales period.

but we got a lot of whale watching tourists up here.

I think it is only illegal if you are harassing the whale. This whale seems to enjoy the contact. Plus, it is a beautiful picture.
