Fish Coughs Up Gold Watch

Curt Carish of Kaua‘i, Hawaii was at Port Allen beach when he spotted a fish swimming awkwardly. He grabbed a bamboo pole and beat the fish until it went limp. Carish put the fish in his cooler. When a friend opened the cooler and looked at the fish, it had a gold watch hanging out of its mouth!
“And the funniest thing is that the watch was on time and still ticking,” Carish said.

Carish, who often hangs out at the private Port Allen Club with many other members, said in all of his 30 years on Kaua‘i he has never encountered anything this bizarre.

You know, if I saw a fish swimming around awkwardly, my first inclination would not be to beat it with a stick. I really find that a strange impulse.

I came on here to comment on the fish beating thing but see that you all beat me to it.. HAH, beat me to it, get it? What an odd compulsion to have.

... "Mr. Carish has been boating since the death of his wife. Hher friends saw her walking with a small limp, and was mysteriously found dead the next day of unknown injuries caused by a bamboo pole. The autopsy found a gold chain in her mouth that was coughed up upon death."

I'm waiting to hear the next story about this guy when he beats a crab with a bamboo pole after it pinchs him on the toe, just to find the face of Jesus printed on the shell.

Echoing the choir. What a bizarre reaction to an awkwardly swimming fish. Beat it to death and put it in a cooler? Why the beatdown? And why stash a fish that looked ill anyway? I wouldn't want to eat it.

Leaving aside the beating with a stick issue (and do the folks above think that hooking it in the mouth then letting it suffocate on a boat--i.e. fishing--is somehow kinder), my first impulse on seeing a fish swimming in a strange way would be "This is not a fish I want to eat." So, why put a diseased fish in your cooler, exactly?

Alex: I have never fished, but if I did I would be throwing any critters I catch back. Not killing them.

But really, this guy is a freak. I see an injured creature I think "I must help somehow" not "I must beat to death with a piece of word".

"so his first instinct when seeing a fish swimming awkwardly is to beat it to death? how compassionate.

his intentions was to catch and cook the fish. Nunue fish are good to eat. he had no pole, spear,or net so he stunned it with a whack. Whats the difference from spearing it to death? farking idiots.

It was a tasty fish. He caught it and put it in the cooler to eat later. I'm not sure what has everyone in an uproar. Swallowing a hook and having your guts ripped out isn't a lot worse that being beaten with a stick.

Actually it is...but I doubt the reaction would have been the same if he had used a fishing pole.

Beyond the "ethics" of what he did, is that even a fish that's in season? I mean, does he have a fishing licence, or is "beating with a stick" a legal method of landing a fish?

"So then this guy comes out of nowhere, beats me senseless with a stick, sticks me in a freezer, and steals my watch. And of course the carps are nowhere to be seen…"

Dont forget, he will send a picture to the newspaper bragging what he did to a fish then you, MR. OVER-REACTER

this fish is good at time keeping i suppose..

however.. if they claim the watch was inside the fish it would have been more beleiveable..from the story it appears as if the watch was inside the fish then somehow when the fish was in the cooler it vomitted the watch!!

publicity stunt nothing more
