Leptotyphlops carlae was discovered by biologist Blair Hedges in a jungle on Barbados last year. It's only four inches long as an adult and as thin as a strand of spaghetti.

This species was already "discovered" and the natives knew about it for a long time. We have to stop claiming that as soon as a western scientist reaches a jungle that he or she is the first person see a species. it's taken nearly 500 years for people to finally start believing that Columbus didn't discover America.
Agree with Emp. Tomato Catsup....I live in South Texas and I've seen these things since I was a kid. They arent all that uncommon. We had a few get in the house & mom called them "glass snakes"
