European Fast Food

HealthAssist is beginning a series on fast food around the world, beginning with Europe. In Denmark, sausages resembling long hot dogs called røde pølser are dipped in ketchup, and bread is a side dish. In the Netherlands, french fries are most commonly dressed in mayonnaise. Of course, in Belgium you can buy waffles from a fast food stand. In Poland, enjoy Zapiekanki which resembles a pizza sandwich. In most of Europe, fast food means sausage. Link -Thanks, Karen!

Words can not describe the appropriate awesomeness Dutch frites are with mayo. And that mayo - god in heaven, it's so good and flavorful. I would kill for some frites right now.

You might want to note that the Danish "røde pølser" (red sausages) are only a variety. Equally common are regular "sausage coloured" sausages.

You can usually get some four or five different kinds of sausage at a stand - reds, browns, foot longs, in a blanket, with relish, fried onions, ketchup, mustard... oh god I'm going out to lunch.

My favorite in Denmark is the sausage wrapped in bacon which is put into a hollowed-out bagette that has a shot of spicy mustard in it - unbelievable! In London there is nothing better than the foot-long carts on the street around 11pm that serve these dogs with grilled onion and hot mustard.
