Melting Man Wants YOU to Fight Global Warming

Photo: Red Cross of Argentina

This is a pretty clever guerilla marketing by the Argentinian Red Cross: a "melting" man passing out fliers urging spectators in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to fight global warming.

Record snowfall across the US. Something like 64 cold temperature records broken in the last month or so. London just had its biggest snowfall in a huge number of years. Where I used to live has just had snow for the first time in 20 years. There is snow forecast for Austin, Texas apparently as well.

Global what?

I'm here just north of London, and it's the coldest winter we've had in the three years I've lived here. I nearly just slipped and busted my head open on the ice outside. Yeah, global what?

Josh, it's too profitable for too many people for them to give it a rest. Sadly, the real research, which presents a less alarmist view gets drowned out by the hysteria.

The UN is the one who started all of this. I know it is profitable. That is why the UN gets all of the crazy people together and vote global warming it real without having a single legitimate scientist or meteorologist present to vote against.

I just find it wrong for people like Al Gore to steal money from people for his own profit. And now the rumor is Obama went to Gores house and might ask him to take a cabinet seat.

Woogie, Evilbeagle, global warming doesn't just mean a nice winter tan for us all, it means more extreme weather (eg snow in Texas).

Personally, I lose more sleep over depletion of natural resources and dependence on oil than on global warming, which I think has been picked up on as a "fashionable" trend by the mainstream media.

Snow as far south as Houston and New Orleans, freezing temperatures down past Orlando. Here in southeastern Florida, we've had lows in the low 40s for weeks (cold that we usually only get for a week or so in January)

.....yeah, tell me how we HAVE to give billions in 'carbon offsets' to the UN to 'redistribute' to the third-world countries.

(Maybe they could just take the billions in Nigeria that nice emailing lawyer says I keep inheriting. There's a solution!)

I used hair spray in cans in the 1970's. They told me I was the cause of global warming and the earth as we know it would end by 1990 unless I stopped using paper bags, driving and recycled water. I did.

Pfft.

Now when they ask, I get a paper bag lined with a plastic bag.

Cathy:

Actually, the CFCs in aerosols (sp?) were supposedly ripping a hole in the ozone layer.

Remember the ozone? Remember how our use of CFCs was a global catastrophe, and we needed to take drastic action in order to save the world?

No, me neither.

oh he, the simpletons are here again: "but its getting colder where i live" the UN/al gore is behind it", etc. i can't decide whether i am scared or just disgusted of these people. look, folks: climate change is a well-dcumented phemonenon. there is a clear correspondence between the level human energy consumption and the circulation greenhouse gas(-es) in the atmosphere. you can ignore it as long as you want, it will still have an effect on your livelyhood. ignore it, and the cost of ignorance will eventually be higher than your immediate benefit.

@Mr. Jones
Yet the hole is in the southern hemisphere over Antarctica. There must to too many people using those Aerosol cans there. Isn't the ultraviolet radiation suppose melt ice? Why is Antarctica growing then? It must not be doing a very good job a melting it. Antarctica is growing faster than it can melt.

Yes climate change is the correct term. Human can change the environment but what we have seen the past 50 years has nothing to do with humans. It is a natural cycle of the Earth and anything we do to stop it will likely only make it worse. We do not even produce enough CO2 to heat the plant. We would need to increase production of CO2 by 100 fold to even make a difference.

Josh- You should have directed your comment to nevrdull. Mr Jones was joining me in my sarcasm.

It is so arrogant for humans to think we can change the environment. We are in a natural cycle.

Those who say the average temperature is up 0.2 of a degree from 100 years ago do not know what they are talking about. We did not have such precise thermometers 100 years ago. If in 100 years the average temperature is rising, then lets talk, but for now, there is nothing different in the weather we are seeing, from the amount or lack of hurricaines and tornadoes to the changes in heavier or lighter winters to the amount of hot and humid summers.

People did not report 24/7 from every corner of the world and also did not record things the way they are recorded now. There were not televisions and news traveled by train then by telegraph, if it was available, and having a hot summer or cold winter or hurricane was not necessarily what was talked about.

That 'hole' in the ozone may have been there all along but we are just now in our lifetime able to see it.

"It is so arrogant for humans to think we can change the environment"
So true.

"It is so arrogant for humans to think we can change"
True too.

"It is so arrogant for humans to think"
It works too!

It's funny...the only thing that seems to be melting right now is this guy. Meanwhile, north Arctic ice is increasing at an incredible, record pace, and the antarctic ice sheet has been growing for the last year and a half.

That guy symbolises the cause he hands out flyers for so well.

On the surface the data shows that there is a melting, but really it's all rhetoric, he's crouched down underneath in a hollow set of fake steps.

Warm is the new Cool. But even moderate people are getting sick of this crap now.. for some real facts check out Penn and Tellers Bullshit Environmental Hysteria - http://www.videosift.com/video/Penn-Teller-Bullshit-Environmental-Hysteria

Getting environmental campaigners to sign a petition banning dihydrogen monoxide - classic!

The environmentalist movement has been infiltrated by anti-globalist anarchists and has been for a long time. This is why Patrick Moore left Greenpeace.
