After 9/11, Skip Storch contracted sarcoidosis after inhaling contaminated debris. To raise awareness of this potentially debilitating inflamatory disease (and money for Mount Sinai Hospital's sarcoidosis program), the 50 year old marathon swimmer swam three times around Manhattan. Skip completed the 85.5 mile swim in just under 33 hours, breaking the prior record by 37 minutes. Link [Gothamist]
